Netanyahu's Surprise Admission: Israel "Not Successful" At Minimizing Civilian Casualties

He ultimately blamed Hamas for this while vowing the Israeli military would "try to finish the job" of eradicating the Islamist terror group.

But he emphasized in surprisingly blunt words: "That's what we're trying to do: minimal civilian casualties. But unfortunately, we're not successful."

He presented the context as one where Hamas was preventing civilians from leaving northern Gaza "at gun point". He claimed that Hamas "fired at the safe corridors that we provided for the Palestinians."

Israel has dropped hundreds of thousands of leaflets over Gaza in the past weeks, warning civilians to exit northern Gaza, which includes the highly populated Gaza City, and move to the south. But just this week Israel has also told areas in the south to evacuate too. Palestinians have said they have nowhere to go, also as the Rafah crossing to Egypt remains closed to all but foreign passport holders.

"Any civilian death is a tragedy. And we shouldn't have any because we're doing everything we can to get the civilians out of harm's way, while Hamas is doing everything to keep them in harm's way," Netanyahu explained.

Palestinian officials have sought to refute the Israeli/US narrative framing of the Gaza crisis at the UN:

Most Jewish voters support Biden – poll

Survey respondents agreed the US president is doing a good job on Israel and can tackle anti-Semitism

Jewish voters in the US overwhelmingly approve of President Joe Biden’s handling of the Israel-Gaza conflict and would support him over Donald Trump in a potential face-off at the ballot box next year, an opinion poll has suggested. They also reject the idea that criticizing West Jersualem's policies makes a person anti-Israel.

Views in the Jewish community were surveyed in early November by pollster GBAO Strategies and reported on Thursday by the Jewish Electorate Institute (JEI), a civic engagement advocacy body.

Most American Jews have historically been liberal-leaning supporters of the Democratic Party. The poll showed that 68% intend to vote for Biden, compared to 22% for Trump, who, however, has the backing of Orthodox Jews.

Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict was supported by 74% of the people surveyed, compared to 66% overall who approve of the president. 43% said Biden’s approach to the crisis made them more positive towards him.

Almost six in ten said they trusted Biden to tackle anti-Semitism in the US, a problem that more than 90% of respondents found concerning. Younger poll respondents were also worried about other forms of bigotry, such as racism and Islamophobia.

An overwhelming 91% said a person can be critical of the Israeli government but remain “pro-Israel”. A smaller majority of 76% expressed that view in relation to Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces besieged the Palestinian enclave in retaliation for a Hamas cross-border incursion last month, in which over 1,200 Israelis people were killed. Critics say Israel’s retaliatory military action has disproportionately killed Palestinian civilians. The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 11,000, according to local authorities.

US Democratic voters are increasingly drawn to the Palestinian cause, according to a Quinnipiac University poll published on Thursday. The share of respondents more sympathetic to Israel than to Palestine dropped from 61% to 54% between mid-October and mid-November. Democrats sided with Palestinians at a 41-to-34 rate in the latest survey.

Some US media have suggested that Biden's pro-Israel stance during the conflict may tip the scales at the ballot box next year. In 2020, he wrestled Michigan from Trump by a margin of 154,000 votes. The state’s Muslim American population of over 200,000 registered voters helped clinch the win, but may stay home in their likely rematch, NPR warned on Friday. Biden’s approval rating among Arab Americans has plunged from 59% in 2020 to 35% before the crisis, and was down to half of that by late October, according to a poll released by the Arab American Institute last month.

Huge Smoke Plume Billowing From US Base Near Irbil, As Iranian Media Touts Strike

Despite reports that behind the scenes the Americans and Iranians are talking 'de-escalation' related to the Gaza War, facts on the ground point to anything but…

The above unverified footage, said to show the aftermath of what appears a large attack on a US base in northern Iraq, is widely circulating online Friday. It shows a huge black plume of smoke rising high above the base, as it appears either an aircraft or vehicle suffered direct hit.

"Iraq’s al-Harir airbase hosting US and international forces was targeted with an armed drone, Iraqi Kurdistan’s counter-terrorism service said in a statement on Friday," regional sources are reporting. Iranian state sources have posted the video.

Semi-official Iranian news source Mehr writes, "The video shows the moments when the Iraqi Islamic Resistance launched a drone attack on the American terrorists' base at Harir Airport located in Erbil province."

The White House has long warned it will escalate attacks on "Iranian proxies" if such attacks continue. There has so far been three waves of US airstrikes against Iran-linked targets in eastern Syria, but this supposed "deterrent" has not proven effective in stopping missiles and drones sent by regional militias.

Ukraine-Born Anti-Trump ‘Whistleblower’ Yevgeny Vindman to Run for Congress in VA-7

Yevgeny 'Eugene' Vindman, the Ukrainian-born former NSC advisor at the center of the Trump phone call hoax, is running as a Democrat.

Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman, the Ukrainian-born former NSC advisor who, along with his brother Alex Vindman was at the center of the Trump phone call impeachment sham, has announced that he’ll run for Congress as a Democrat in Virginia’s 7th District, a seat currently held by ex-CIA agent Abigail Spanberger, who says she won’t seek re-election in 2024 as she plans to run for Governor.

Vindman, who was born to a Jewish family in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic before immigrating to the United States, released a campaign video to X announcing his run for Congress, giving a brief background on himself and his military career and going on to boast of his role in reporting “the infamous phone call” for which President Trump was impeached by Democrats before being completely vindicated by reality.

Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman’s announcement of his Democrat campaign for Congress comes just days after incumbent VA-7 Rep. Abigail Spanberger announced that she would not seek re-election and instead plans to run for Governor of Virginia in 2025.

Like Vindman, a former NSC advisor and anti-Trump ringleader, Spanberger, who supported the Vindman-tied phone call impeachment of President Trump, has longstanding ties to the deep state, having previously worked in the CIA.

Israel hands out gas concessions to BP, ENI as Gaza war drags on

Israel is determined to project a "business as usual" stance despite the conflict with Hamas claiming the lives of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians.

Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure said on Sunday that it has awarded 12 licenses to six companies, including BP and ENI, for natural gas exploration off the country’s Mediterranean coast, as the war with Gaza-based Hamas entered its fourth week with no ceasefire in sight.

The offshore tender is the fourth bidding round for natural gas exploration in Israeli waters, whereby the ministry intends to boost competition as well as grow domestic supply and exports.

Two consortia won the bids: one comprising Italy’s ENI, Scotland’s Dana Petroleum Ltd. and Israeli business Ratio Energies, while the other consists of BP, State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Israel’s NewMed Energy. The companies will explore two areas next to Israel’s Leviathan field, the country’s largest and one of the world’s biggest deep-water gas discoveries.

Israel’s war with Hamas saw the shutdown of Israel's Tamar offshore gas field, the country’s second-largest. It has yet to be reopened after being closed for security reasons on Oct. 8. The site is owned by Chevron, Dor Gas Exploration Limited Partnership, Everest Infrastructures, Isramco Negev 2, UAE-based Mubadala Investment and the Israeli company Tamar Petroleum. Before the shutdown, the field typically met around 70% of Israel’s power generation needs. The country has since been backfilling the supply from other fields to avoid disruptions to flows.

Israel is determined to diversify and develop its energy market and project a "business as usual" stance despite the war with Hamas showing no signs of abating soon, and claiming the lives of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians. Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz said that the new investment commitment during the war was a sign of confidence in his country’s resilience.

The new licenses will “strengthen Israel’s energy security, international ties, lower the cost of living and provide energy support to accelerate the transition of the economy to renewable energies,” Katz added.

Meanwhile, Israel’s economy has been put under strain after 300,000 military reservists were called up to potentially fight in the conflict against Hamas, which many fear could spiral into a wider Middle Eastern war including other actors such as Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Lawsuit: Company Controlling Political Robocalls and Texts Is Biased Against Conservatives, Riddled with China Ties

A recent lawsuit accuses the authority for political robocalls and text messages in the U.S. of discriminating against Republican candidates, as well as having concerning ties to foreign governments.

In 2019 and 2020, Congress imposed strict regulations on robocalls and other forms of political messaging used in nearly every political campaign nationwide; however, it did not mandate the FCC or a comparable government entity enforce these news laws. As a result, the phone carriers provided a government-sanctioned monopoly to a third-party company called The Campaign Registry to do this vetting. It contracts much of its message vetting to a private company, Aegis Mobile.

In September, Williams Peters, the co-founder of The Campaign Registry, filed a lawsuit against Kaleyra, now The Campaign Registry’s parent company. His suit alleges that, after Kaleyra acquired the company and while Peters served as the Vice President of Finance, The Campaign Registry tried to actively stop the campaign messages of certain Republican candidates. The alleged acts include successfully halting Kari Lake’s Arizona governor campaign’s messages for two weeks in September 2022.

“When Mr. Peters and others learned what was happening, Mr. Peters asked [TCR Operations Head Ricardo Covero] to report what he had learned to Campaign Registry management, specifically to Soren Schafft (TCR CEO), Tor Soevik (TCR COO), Stefan Heller (TCR VP Business Development) and Michael Ford (TCR VP Operations),” the suit reads. “They told Mr. Cavero to let it go and not do anything. Mr. Peters reported this to the FBI through his attorney in September 2022 and by direct interview in Washington, DC on October 20, 2022.”

Peters’ suit also alleges that Kaleyra refused to seek review by the Committee on Foreign Investments in the United States regarding its ownership of The Campaign Registry. CFIUS is chaired by the U.S. Treasury Secretary and reviews foreign investments in the United States.

CISA warns of actively exploited Windows, Sophos, and Oracle bugs

The U.S. Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency has added to its catalog of known exploited vulnerabilities (KEV) three security issues that affect Microsoft devices, a Sophos product, and an enterprise solution from Oracle.

The KEV catalog contains flaws confirmed to be exploited by hackers in attacks and serves as a repository for vulnerabilities that companies all over should treat with priority.

The agency is urging federal agencies to apply available security updates for the three issues before December 7. The three vulnerabilities are tracked as follows:

CVE-2023-36584 – "Mark of the Web" (MotW) security feature bypass on Microsoft Windows.

CVE-2023-1671 – Command injection vulnerability in Sophos Web Appliance allowing remote code execution (RCE).

CVE-2020-2551 – Unspecified vulnerability in Oracle Fusion Middleware, allowing an unauthenticated attacker with network access via IIOP to compromise the WebLogic server.

Microsoft addressed CVE-2023-36584 in the October 2023 Patch Tuesday bundle of security updates. However, it wasn't flagged as actively exploited in the disclosure and at the time of writing it's still marked as non exploited.

The critical flaw in Sophos Web Appliance, fixed on April 4, 2023, is identified as CVE-2023-1671 and has a severity score of 9.8. It can lead to remote code execution (RCE) and affects versions of the software before 4.3.10.4.

It is worth noting that Sophos Web Appliance reached end-of-life on July 20 and no longer receives any type of updates. The company notified customers that they should migrate to Sophos Firewall web protection.

Although CISA's KEV catalog is mainly aimed at federal agencies in the U.S. companies across the world are advised to use it as an alert system for exploited vulnerabilities and take the necessary steps to update their systems or apply vendor-recommended mitigations.

Update 11/17 - A Sophos spokesperson has reached out to share the following clarification about CVE-2023-1671:

More than six months ago, on April 4, 2023, we released an automatic patch to all Sophos Web Appliances, as noted in the Security Advisory on our Trust Center, and in July 2023, we’ve phased out Sophos Web Appliance as previously planned.

We appreciate CISA’s notice for any of the small number of remaining Sophos Web Appliance users who turned off auto-patch and/or missed our ongoing updates, and recommend they upgrade to Sophos Firewall for optimal network security moving forward.

How smartphone addiction affects brain function and mental health

Smartphone addiction has now become a global issue, thanks to the popularity of social media platforms and mobile games. While smartphones can make life easier in many ways, excessive use of smartphones and similar devices has been linked to many health issues.

According to a recent study published in Computers in Human Behavior, problematic smartphone use can cause cognitive impairments, poor sleep quality and depression. The study authors noted that although problematic smartphone use generally correlates with screen time, high screen time alone does not necessarily cause adverse effects. Smartphone use only becomes problematic when it starts to interfere with daily life.

In an article published in EXCLI Journal, Sehar Shoukat from the California Institute of Behavioral Neurosciences and Psychology discussed the dangers of problematic smartphone use and smartphone addiction. He noted that whenever a habit, such as checking or being active on social media, turns into an obligation, it quickly becomes an addiction. This addiction can easily endanger one's well-being because of its negative influence on physical and psychological health.

According to Shoukat, people who are "mobile addicted" are unable to cut back on their cell phone usage and often use their phones as a solution to boredom. They also get anxious or depressed when their phones are out of their reach. These negative feelings and attitude, coupled with a dependency on smartphones and other gadgets, could increase a person's risk of developing anxiety disorders and clinical depression.

"When cell phone use becomes an addiction, the behavior becomes stressful," said Shoukat, quoting a research on cell phone use and human behavior.

Negative effects of smartphone addiction on mental health

Several studies have explored the psychological effects of excessive smartphone usage and social media addiction. While social media platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) can be accessed using laptops or desktop computers, smartphone apps appear to be the most common gateways for social media users, especially young adults.

ISRAEL HAS PLANS TO LAUNCH ATTACKS AGAINST YEMEN: AIR FORCE COMMANDER

The commander of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) revealed on November 16 that Israel has plans to launch attacks against Yemen.

According to the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, the commander, Major General Tomer Bar, said that the IAF, which he described as the strategic arm of Israel, is “prepared and operates all over the Middle East, in every required arena, anywhere.”

Bar’s threat came just a few days after the Houthis (Ansar Allah) announced two attacks against Israel and threatened to target Israeli ships sailing near Yemen in support of the Gaza Strip.

The Houthis, who control a large part of Yemen and maintain a large arsenal of missiles and drones, are a part of the so-called “Axis of Resistance” which is backed by Iran and opposes Israel.

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, the Houthis have been launching attacks with missiles and drones against Israel. The group also shot down a combat drone of the United States military that was allegedly operating off Yemen’s western coast in support of Israel.

The IAF possesses the means to attack Yemen. So does the Israeli Navy. Nevertheless, any attack on the country could further provoke the Houthis. The group will likely escalate its attacks on Israel and even target nearby U.S. warships and bases.

Sacha Baron Cohen blasts TikTok for being the 'main platform for the dissemination of Jew hate'

"I understand that you are in a very, very difficult and complicated place, but you also are the main platform for the dissemination of Jew hate," said actress Debra Messing.

Jewish celebrities and content creators claim that TikTok has become a breeding ground for anti-Semitism in wake of the Israel-Hamas war. They lashed out at executives during a meeting on Wednesday and demanded action be taken to address the issue through stricter content moderation policies.

Actor and comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, who is most famously known for his role as "Borat," accused TikTok of creating "the biggest antisemitic movement since the Nazis," according to meeting records obtained by The New York Times.

"If you think back to Oct. 7, the reason why Hamas were able to behead young people and rape women was they were fed images when they were small kids that led them to hate," Cohen continued.

The British celebrity informed the TikTok executives that there is no excuse for allowing statements like "Hitler was right" and "I hope you end up like Anne Frank" on its platform. He said that comments such as these could simply be addressed by "flipping a switch."

"Shame on you!" the actor snapped at execs. The virtual meeting also included Jewish actresses Debra Messing and Amy Schumer.

TikTok's head of operations, Adam Presser, and global head of user operations, Seth Melnick, told Cohen that they are aware of the issue but it's not something that can be fixed with a "magic button." The two executives are both Jewish, according to The Times.

"Obviously a lot of what Sacha says, there's truth to that," Presser said to the irate celebs. "We can do better."

Actress Debra Messing, who is most famously known for the hit sitcom "Will and Grace," pleaded to executives to ban phrases such as "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." The controversial pro-Palestinian phrase has been criticized for its true meaning. Many say it is a call to "eradicate Israel" and "terminate the Jews." The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) claims the phrase is anti-Semitic on its website.

Presser told Messing that since that phrase has been interpreted by more than 40,000 users on its platform, the content is "considered acceptable speech" due to current content policies.

The TikTok exec explained that, "Where it is clear exactly what they mean — 'kill the Jews, eradicate the state of Israel' — that content is violative and we take it down," but for instances "where people use the phrase where it is not clear, where someone is just using it casually, then that has been considered acceptable speech."

Messing argued with the executives and pleaded for them to change its policies.

"It is much more reasonable to bar it at this juncture than to say, 'Oh, well, some people, they use it in a different way that it was actually created to mean," Messing said. "I understand that you are in a very, very difficult and complicated place, but you also are the main platform for the dissemination of Jew hate."

Others involved in the meeting expressed grievances surrounding the amount of time it takes for TikTok to address anti-Semitic harassment. One user explained that it took up to five days for TikTok to address the complaint, according to The New York Times.

Presser blamed it on a lack of staffing and said they are working to resolve the issue.

The New York Post reports that the virtual meeting had been organized after the same group of Jewish celebrities and content creators sent an open letter to TikTok condemning anti-Semitism on its platform.

TikTok has been in the national spotlight this week after shocking videos began to surface on the platform. Users have been praising al-Queda terrorist Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks, for his 2002 "Letter to America," which has now been viewed more than 10 million times on the platform.
