My $0.02 as to what EM is ultimately trying to achieve: he is trying to develop an interface to the "group conscience" of humanity. Another word for that is an interface to collective intuition. Another name for that is an interface to the mind of God.

I must be as crazy as EM, because I support it. We'll need such an interface to overcome the evil that is getting its tech on, so to speak
