You can be a homesteader these days and still work. It's just that you have to prioritize everything, and juggle the most important tasks with time, but it definitely helps when you live with family members who help out with chores and have part time jobs themselves. Out where I live it is unincorporated, very few zoning laws so no one is bothering us, we are free to do whatever we wish on our property (civilized lawfully that is). Our Sheriff is also very strong supporter of our 2nd Amendment too.
