(It’s the BBC, what do you expect?)

Black women most likely to die in medieval London plague

21st November 2023,

Black women of African descent were more likely to die of the medieval plague in London, academics at the Museum of London have found.

The study is the first archaeological exploration showing how racism influenced a person's risk of death during what was known as the Great Pestilence or Great Mortality.

The research is based on 145 individuals from three cemeteries.

The outbreak is believed to have claimed the lives of 35,000 Londoners.

Data on bone and dental changes of the 145 individuals from East Smithfield emergency plague cemetery, St Mary Graces and St Mary Spital formed the basis of the study.

It found there were significantly higher proportions of people of colour and those of Black African descent in plague burials compared to non-plague burials.

The likelihood of dying from the Great Pestilence was highest amongst those who already faced significant hardship, including exposure to famines that hit England during this time.

The research concluded that higher death rates amongst people of colour and those of black African descent was aresult of the "devastating effects" of "premodern structural racism" in the medieval world.

What was the medieval plague?

Often referred to today as the Black Death, the outbreak of 1348-1350 was a deadly infectious disease that swept across Asia and Europe, killing millions of people.

Modern scientific research has identified this as a plague pandemic but in the mid-1300s people had no idea what the disease was or how to stop it.

It arrived in London in the autumn of 1348 and lasted until the spring of 1350.

More than half the population of London died. Emergency cemeteries had to be set up to bury them.

The disease was carried by rats who had infected fleas, and also transmitted by droplet infection, such as people coughing on each other.

Symptoms included fever, fatigue, vomiting and buboes (large swellings).

Social and religious divisions based on origin, skin colour and appearance were present in both medieval England and Europe.

Biological anthropologist from University of Colorado, Prof Sharon DeWitte, said: "Not only does this research add to our knowledge about the biosocial factors that affected risks of mortality during medieval plague epidemics, it also shows that there is a deep history of social marginalization shaping health and vulnerability to disease in human populations."

Associate professor of anthropology at Michigan State University, Dr Joseph Hefner, said: "This research takes the deep dive into previous thinking about population diversity in medieval England based on primary sources.

"Combining bioarchaeological method and theory with forensic anthropological methods permits a more nuanced analysis of this very important data."

Dr Rebecca Redfern, from the Museum of London, said: "We have no primary written sources from people of colour and those of black African descent during the Great Pestilence of the 14th Century, so archaeological research is essential to understanding more about their lives and experiences.

"As with the recent Covid-19 pandemic, social and economic environment played a significant role in people's health and this is most likely why we find more people of colour and those of black African descent in plague burials."

Thats why this article is so ridiculous, anyone poor at that had higher rates of death. So many more reason why Africans from a hot country with unending land could die in captivity of England, a wet and cold country.

These people have lost their minds and objectivity, England is obsessed because of the genetic guilt of buying or stealing slaves from Africa etc for 100s of years!

They didn’t look for any other reason they died more.

Putin Faces New Election Challenger

Nov 20, 2023 at 1:14 PM EST

Detained former Russian commander Igor Girkin has announced his intent to run for the Russian presidency in 2024, a move that could spell bad news for Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin, according to experts.

Girkin, a prominent nationalist who has publicly criticized how Putin leads the country and the military leadership's handling of the war in Ukraine, is in custody awaiting trial, having failed in an appeal in August against his pre-trial detention on charges of inciting extremism.

The former Federal Security Service (FSB) officer rose to prominence after assisting Russia's move to annex the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. He was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment by the Hague District Court in the Netherlands for his role in shooting down a Malaysian Airlines passenger jet on July 17, 2014, over Ukraine's Donetsk region, which killed 298 people.

Girkin's arrest in July came after he had been openly publishing commentary critical of Russia's military strategy and setbacks throughout Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Days before his arrest, Girkin called the Russian president a "cowardly mediocrity" and said Russia would not survive another presidential term by Putin.

Girkin has told his allies to prepare a campaign for his intended run for the Russian presidency, Oleg Nelzin, head of a pro-Girkin political group, said in a video published by Russian media outlet Sota on November 18. Russia's2024 presidential election is scheduled to be held on March 17 next year.

"I understand perfectly well that in the current situation in Russia, participating in the presidential campaign is like sitting down at a table to play with card sharps," Girkin said in a letter published by his Telegram channel.

He said he hoped that his announcement would unite patriotic forces and would disrupt the Kremlin's attempt at a "sham election" in which "the only winner is known in advance".

"This is our chance to unite in the face of external and internal threats," Girkin said.

News of his presidential bid brings to focus his prior criticism of how the war has been handled, and Putin's leadership, spelling bad news for the Kremlin.

Vlad Mykhnenko, an expert at the University of Oxford in the post-communist transformation of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, told Newsweek that the very "bitter and sarcastic tone" of Girkin's electoral manifesto shows he believes Russia's forthcoming presidential voting procedure will be anything but free and fair and that the Kremlin would do anything to stop his name appearing on the ballot paper.

"Ostensibly, Girkin's aim is to galvanize the real fascist 10-15% of the electorate, those who blame the 'incompetent' and 'corrupt' military establishment in Moscow for being unable to crash Ukraine, capture Kyiv, and move on towards Warsaw," said Mykhnenko.

Mykhnenko said he believes Girkin's real aim in announcing a presidential bid is "to save his own skin, by scaring the Kremlin into offering him a release from prison deal, say, 'you keep your mouth shut until Putin's reelection, whilst we will drop all the [trumped up] charges against you.'"

"Recently, Girkin has complained about his rapidly deteriorating health whilst in detention, whilst in late September a very humiliating, close-up photograph of Girkin, being badly beaten up, bloodied, black-eyed, with a swollen or broken nose, was leaked from the detention facility to the Russian propaganda media channels," he added. "Hence, Girkin has every reason to worry about surviving his arrest and, therefore, declaring his presidential ambition is exactly the publicity he needs now to prevent the worst from happening."

In a statement posted on Telegram in August,

Keir Giles, a senior consulting fellow of the Russia and Eurasia program at the Chatham House think tank in London, told Newsweekthat if Girkin is indeed a genuine opponent to Putin, then it "makes no sense for him to be allowed to run in the election—and it will be entirely at Putin's whim whether he is allowed to or not."

"So if he does in fact appear on ballot papers, it means one of two things.Either he is yet another representative of the fake opposition, put in place to provide the semblance of choicein Russia's perverse role-playing of democracy. Or, the Russian system is counting on its capacity to ensure a humiliatingly low vote for Girkin in order to discredit him," said Giles.

But Giles said it's very unlikely Girkin will be allowed to return to a position where he not only harbors views that are critical of Putin, but also has access to organized armed support.

"Putin will not allow the risk of another Prigozhin," Giles added.

Why is Vivek Ramaswamy?

Understand who you are dealing with

HANK OSLO

It is under appreciated what a broad label “venture capital” is. You have everything from “we are an excuse for rich guys to hang out with interesting people” to“we build acquisition targets for GoogAmaMicroMeta”to “we intentionally lock up investments for 10y so you can pretend your pension fund is solvent”, and beyond. Somewhere on the spectrum is pharmaceutical development, where Vivek Ramaswamy made his money.

All of these have something in common. They pull gains in from the future by setting expectations of investors - a veritable time machine. The earlier you are in this process the more variance there is and the more vibe-driven you become. “A CEO who is in the top 0.1% of charisma” is a great investment at the bottom, regardless of what he is actually pitching, because you can say that in expectation whatever story he ends up telling future investors will be enough to cash you out at a premium”, you’ve invested in the ride, not the destination.

This is fundamentally a social process. So being able to identify trends and leap on top of them just as they get going is the fundamental skill, because a lot of the time the people you are in turn selling to, explicitly or implicitly via a higher valuation (which allows you to take higher management / carry fees) are looking for “a XYZ company” for their portfolio… You’re talking your book constantly, promoting your companies…

Of course to get the really good investments, you can’t be just a pot of dumb money (although that is a pitch some firms make - sometimes low-touch is attractive). You have connections, you can help with recruiting, you know attorneys and accountants, you know greybeardswho ran into a similar problem way back in ‘15…

This is a little bit different in pharma, Vivek’s stomping grounds, but not by a terrible amount - you’re selling the idea that you have a team and an approach that can usher a certain kind of molecule through clinical trials, as opposed to…what have you through acquisition or IPO. At various times he has been on the buy side and sell side of these arrangements, to great success.

So how does this translate into politics, and what are the implications for Vivek’s presidential campaign? You might notice an absurd charisma gap between Vivek and his peers - the impression being given is that with the exception of his position on importing his extended family, he “gets it” (something like understanding the depth of American structural rot and the deep unimpressiveness of his compatriots on stage) in a way that the others don’t.

This impression is not an accident.

Conveying that you “get it” is a core VC skill, on both sides - translating it from one-on-one retail encounters to mass media is itself a skill, but it leverages the underlying ability to sum-up, to make a representative point, to ask a rhetorical question that actually clarifies. The issues he talks about areessentially MAGA-lite right wing populism- the trend being chased, not metaphysically different from noticing people sure are on their phones a lot and drawing the appropriate conclusions about how that plays out.

This isn’t to say Vivek is not an impressive guy. It’s not to say he isn’t sincere (or the reverse). It’s just to point out there are at aminimum hundreds of executives just like him, who could do the same bit.VC / private equity / investment firms are replete with them. At the higher levels you are likely to receive coaching on these skills that is better than the modal politician has access to.

Mostly they do not go into politics because it is a thankless job with a humiliating failure pattern, usually less day-to-day personal power than they already have, and a weird backloaded compensation structure that requires you do semi-compromising stuff like pretend your wife is a real estate genius. The result is thatwhen they do run, it’s often the result of incredible narcisism, or as a favor for a machine. The smart way to do it is to take a swing at the big pinata and aim for an executive appointment, rather than trying to grind your way through an actual campaign for Senate or some other booby prize. Not coincidentally, this is precisely Vivek’s approach. If it works, maybe there will be more.

A better governing system would more effectively use talent from the “private sector” (a dichotomy that is itself a sign of deep problems), so that holding office or an appointment would have an obvious payoff of general appeal, rather than painting a target on one’s back or raising questions about what precise arrangements had been made under the table. Nevertheless, in our situation you work with what you have.Hopefully Trump can make good use of him.

Beef Recall in Eight States as Possible Contamination Found

Chloe MayerNov 21, 2023

Cooks have been warned of a ground beef recall hitting thousands of pounds of meat—amid fears that it may be "contaminated with a foreign object."

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced details of the recall on Sunday, revealing that about 5,620 pounds of raw ground beef must be either returned to the place of purchase or destroyed. The meat had been shipped to eight states across the U.S.

The FSIS, which falls under the remit of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, protects Americans' health by ensuring meat, poultry, and egg products are safe to eat. The agency, which has around 9,000 employees, occasionally issues recalls when it fears a food product may be harmful in some way. For example, back in January, some 50,000 pounds of sausage products were recalled when FSIS inspectors announced they be infected with a potentially deadly bacteria that could cause a serious infection called listeriosis. And in November 2022, some 93,697 pounds of raw ground beef products were recalled.

Regarding this week's recall of ground beef, the FSIS has warned consumers not to use meat produced and packed on August 19 by a company named Skyline Provisions, Inc. The items subject to the recall are:

20-lb. carton boxes containing four packages of "SKYLINE PROVISIONS, INC. GROUND BEEF 81/19" with "ITEM # 000248" printed on the label. The product bears the establishment number "EST. 19300" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

20-lb. carton boxes containing four packages of "SKYLINE PROVISIONS, INC. GROUND BEEF 75/25" with "ITEM # 000293" printed on the label. The product bears the establishment number "EST. 19300" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

(Is this company targeted by the Bidan Admin?)

YIIIKES: Pete Buttigieg Pal and Mentee Receives 30-Year Prison Sentence in Child P*rn Case (500 Victims!)

Sam J.

11:10 AM on November 21, 2023

It's rare that a news story crosses our timeline and we have to stop for a second and really think about what it is we just read. This from End Wokeness is one of those new stories. If this guy is a Pete Buttigieg mentee that means he was the mentor.

Hrm. We got … nothin'.

One victim who spoke on video said she was stalked and harassed online for years after the abuse and even had to move.

Myers said more than 500 VICTIMS who live around the world were on Wojahn's phone

How does that old saying go? You are the company you keep? Hrm, again.

Yeah, we're not exactly counting on our pals in the mainstream media to cover this - they're far too busy melting down over Elon Musk suing Media Matters or something.

Similar reaction here.

Yup.

(Someone should check on Pete and husband’s children!)
