Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt abruptly resigns from office because of health reasons

Woonsocket's mayor said Thursday that she has resigned her office.

Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt said in a letter that she stepped down because of health reasons, but her resignation comes as the City Council just launched an investigation into a land deal the mayor made.

"As you may be aware, I experienced some serious health concerns back in April of this year. In the months since then I have done my best to continue the work I was elected to do and have accomplished for the past 10 years here in our beloved City," Baldelli-Hunt wrote.

• Baldelli-Hunt ran unopposed on the ballot a month later and garnered more than 75% of the vote.-
