The Magical German Bakery

Once upon a time, there was a German baker. He opened a bakery in nearby Poland. It was his objective to bake as much bread as possible, but he only had twenty-two months to do it before his Russian-Jewish competitor would arrive.

Because this happened during an earlier period of time, the magic baker could only bake one loaf of bread every three hours for each oven he owned. He had twenty-four ovens. Therefore, he could bake no more then 192 loaves of bread a day. Over the course of twenty-two months with an average of thirty days in a month, the magic baker could only feasibly bake 126,720 loaves of bread during that time (192 x 30 x 22) - if ever oven operated at peak efficiency, none of them required cleaning, all of them mechanically worked, and the baker never took a rest.

Eventually, the German baker was forced to leave his bakery in Poland, when the Russian-Jewish competitor arrived.

Magically, however, the Russsian-Jew discovered that the German baker made six million loaves of bread. He told the whole world about the six million leaves of bread. The world was astonished. Despite no evidence of the claim and the fact that the number was mathematically impossible, the world believed the German baker baked six million loaves of bread and wasted them.

To question the fable was made illegal in many countries. The German baker was forced to atone for the sin of baking so much bread that wasted away, despite the fact that the German baker could not have possibly baked that much bread. He was shamed and humiliated. Eventually, he accepted his fate and the Russian-Jewish competitor reaped the rewards that came with the scorn of wasted bread.

Years have gone by. Over time, every child in every school would be taught the Myth of the Magical German Bakery. It would become a site upon which political delegations would visit. The grandchildren of the German baker still apologize, despite the fact that the physics of the allegation are impossible to achieve. But like most myths, they are not predicated on facts. They are based on fantastic tales, emotion, and childlike belief.

If you openly question the details of the Magical German Bakery, you can end up in prison, lose your job, or even worse. Belief is required. Questioning is forbidden.
