Galatians 1:8-9

King James Version

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

The Counter-Reformation (Latin: Contrareformatio), also sometimes called the Catholic Revival,[1] was the period of Catholic resurgence that was initiated in response to, and as an alternative to, the Protestant Reformations at the time. It began with the Council of Trent (1545–1563) and largely ended with the conclusion of the European wars of religion in 1648.[2] The similar term Catholic Reformation (Latin: Reformatio Catholica) may also encompass reforms and movements within the Church in the periods immediately before Protestantism or Trent.

Pope urged to apologise for Vatican castrations - The Guardian

Aug 14, 2001 … In 1902 it issued a decree banning castrati from the Sistine chapel. But such was the beauty and power of their singing that successive popes …

A castrato (Italian, pl.: castrati) is a male singer who underwent castration before puberty in order to retain singing voice equivalent to that of a soprano, mezzo-soprano, or contralto. The voice can also occur in one who, due to an endocrinological condition, never reaches sexual maturity.

Castration before puberty (or in its early stages) prevents the larynx from being transformed by the normal physiological events of puberty. As a result, the vocal range of prepubescence (shared by both sexes) is largely retained, and the voice develops into adulthood in a unique way.

I'm happy to present two very rare recordings of Domenico Mancini (here age 45), a falsettist soprano who in his youth studied singing with the famed "last castrato" Alessandro Moreschi. [As the old Italian school is a school of imitation, Mancini learned to sing not only the "sound"yeah, that's the ticket]

you create your own chess pieces out of bishops, knights, pawns (so many pawns), queens, and kings for the serious players with a stake in the game

you gain pieces and lose pieces and the winner takes all

but it's not chess, it's "life", or is it "art"?
