I always thought that Thanksgiving was on the last Thursday of November.
But yesterday was the last Thursday of November, so I had to look it up.
Abraham Lincoln designated Thanksgiving to be on the last Thursday of Nov.
But in 1941, under FDR, it was changed to the 4th Thursday of Nov. to allow for more days between Thanksgiving and Christmas and have a longer Christmas season. More shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I don't remember ever learning this in school. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, or maybe I was sick that day. Or maybe I just had teachers that never bothered to talk about it.
