Dicyanin.

Someone brought to my attention the very first NVGs were tinted in a hellish red, with a yellow tint that could view thermals? I am skeptical of this…

Any information frens?

See the reason I'm skeptical is because I've looked through red goggles myself, more specifically my most recent experience was with old red virtual reality goggles which only returned a red and black display. It was disorienting, made things really painful to look at in and later, out of the goggles for a short time. Recalling this experience made me wonder more about the validity of this theory… the chemical in question, Dicyanin, is not illegal it would seem and is easy to produce with basic lab equipment, and the explanation that swapping to green goggles is simply best explained because we had an easier time seeing in shades of green (currently being replaced or paralleled by white iirc). Furthermore, the soldiers were in The Vietnam jungles and forests, which, if you've ever wandered in the woods on a particularly well lit night (full moons especially), your eyes and mind can play some horrific tricks on you.

Now… the disturbing thing here to me is that ALLEGEDLY this was causing dozens or even hundreds of gunners and soldiers to panic out of no where and fire at things only they could see after 'x' period of time using the goggles. If I were to see the reports or some form of evidence to suggest this is true, it would raise serious concerns about the validity of "authoritative" claims… those are a lot of eye witnesses telling the same story after all. Why would they bullshit knowing they would be put in psych?
