OK so back to the hard candy that I couldn't find for a reasonable price:

everywhere on line was almost double what it should be.

a graph on google showed that the online price had spiked within the last month (because it's a nice gift for Christmas).

today I needed milk so I went to my grocery store and there it was, and I bought it for a reasonable price.

my point in all of this: prices on line are far higher for many things than they are if you find the same item in a store.

and if you pay for shipping it costs even more.

anyway I bought two jars of the German hard candy and felt happy that I could find it.

I may buy some for gifts, but we'll see if it's still there when I'm shopping next week or the week after. I don't want to be a hog and buy it all.
