US House Speaker issues Ukraine ultimatum to Biden

The Republican lawmaker has set conditions for approving any more money for Kiev

Getting the Republican-majority House of Representatives to approveadditional funding for Ukraine would require first securing the US border with Mexico, Speaker Mike Johnson told the White House on Tuesday.

The Louisiana Republican was responding to Monday’s public letter from Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Shalanda Young, who warned that the US was “out of money—and nearly out of time” in terms of aid to Ukraine and Israel. Young argued that cutting off US aid would “kneecap Ukraine on the battlefield” and increase the “likelihood of Russian military victories.”

Johnson first addressed Israel, noting that the House approved the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act (HR 6126) on November 2, but thatDemocrats who control the Senate “voted to block-consideration of the bill.”

As for Ukraine, Johnson wrote, the Republican position has remained unchanged since his meeting with Young and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on October 26, when he laid out “two essential prerequisites: ==security at our border, and critical answers regarding the funds requested.”

Six days prior, President Joe Biden had announced the proposal to bundle the funding for Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan and immigration and border enforcement in a $106 billion package, of which about $60 billion would go to Kiev.

Additional funding for Ukraine is “dependent upon enactment of transformative change to our nation’s border security laws,” Johnson wrote on Tuesday. The House passed theSecure the Border Act of 2023 (HR 2), “more than six months ago,” he noted, but theSenate Democrats have “refused to act” on it.

Pointing to over 6.5 million “illegal alien encounters”along the southern US border since Biden took office, of which 294 involved people “on the terrorist watchlist,”Johnson called the situation “an unconscionable and unsustainable catastrophe.”

In addition to “madness” on the border, Johnson noted that theWhite House still owed Congress “a full accounting of how prior US military and humanitarian aid”to Ukraine was spent “and an explanation of the president’s strategy to ensure an accelerated path to victory.” He accused Biden of “failure thus far to present clearly defined objectives,” and to provide Kiev the weapons it needed on time.

“Rather than engaging with Congressional Republicans to discuss logical reforms, the Biden Administration has ignored reality, choosing instead to engage in political posturing,” the House speaker said.

Talks on a border security bill in the Senate collapsed earlier in the day, as Democrats denounced the Republican proposal as “extreme,” claiming it would “end asylum as we know it.”(That’s the point assholes!)

Send Ukrainian men home to fight – German MP

The “crux of the issue” for Ukraine is that hundreds of thousands of its citizens are avoiding military service, a CDU politician has claimed

Forcing hundreds of thousands of able-bodied Ukrainian men who fled to the EU to return and join their country's army would greatly aid Kiev’s cause, German MP Roderich Kiesewetter told Die Welt daily on Monday. The CDU party lawmaker added that the large number of Ukrainians avoiding military service is one of the key problems the government of President Vladimir Zelensky faces. (Kek! Right!)

Kiev ordered a mass mobilization after hostilities with Russia began in February 2022 and barred men aged 18 to 60, who could potentially be called up for service, from leaving the country without a special waiver.

Ukrainian officials and media have repeatedly reported a large number of draft dodgers as officials struggle to refill army ranks amid heavy losses.

In October, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Natalya Kalmykova said that “tens, hundreds of thousands of people” were dodging the draft. Ukrainian media also reported in early November that as many as 8,000 Ukrainians were facing criminal charges for draft evasion.

Die Welt reported in November that Kiev had resorted to conscripting key workers and potentially harming Ukraine’s long-term economic viability in order to meet the army’s needs.

Asked about demands for demobilization put forward by the families of Ukrainian soldiers, Kiesewetter said too many Ukrainians were reluctant to “relieve the burden”of their fellow citizens at the frontlines.

“The crux of the matter for Ukraine is that, in the European Union, for example, over 600,000 able-bodied Ukrainian men are avoiding military service,” the lawmaker said. Germany alone hosts some 220,000 such refugees, he added. Kiesewetter previously served with the German general staff and finished his military career as a colonel.

All those people should be urged to go back to their home country to either join the army or to “help … by supporting the Red Cross, clearing up rubble, helping the fire brigades and providing civil support,” the MP, a member of the biggest opposition party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), said.

He added that Germans should “make an appeal to the young men who are fit for military service” and that Brussels “should do the same.” He estimated that the number of male able-bodied Ukrainians living in Germany alone would be enough to staff “more than 10 divisions” for Kiev.

Asked about potential diplomatic talks between Moscow and Kiev, Kiesewetter immediately rejected the idea, claiming Russia does not want to negotiate. Instead, he called for increased arms supplies to Ukraine, admitting that the war will last “for quite some time.”

Moscow has repeatedly said it is ready for talks with Kiev, as long as the reality of the situation on the ground is taken into account. Four former Ukrainian territories officially joined Russia in autumn 2022 following a series of referendums in a move that Kiev and its Western backers have never recognized.

On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RTVI that Russia has not closed the door on talks and would like to resolve the conflict through diplomatic and political means.

(SICK) Zelensky party MP tells Ukrainian women to go to the front lines

The appeal comes as Kiev ponders mobilization reform

Ukrainians who wish to help the country by volunteering should enlist in the military – and that includes women, lawmaker Mariana Bezuglaya from President Vladimir Zelensky’s ruling party ‘Servant of the People’ said on Tuesday.

In a Facebook post marking International Volunteer Day, Bezuglaya thanked everyone who had volunteered to help the Ukrainian military, but argued that 2024 was time for that to end.

“The duty of the state is to provide everything that’s needed; the duty of the citizens is to pay taxes for it.The best volunteering today is to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” she wrote.

“The people are the state; as the people, so the state,”she added.

Less than an hour later, responding to a torrent of comments, Bezuglaya doubled down.

“Dear mobilized servicemen, do you want new people to come to your unit? To strengthen you? To give you a rest?” she wrote. “That’s why I said the best volunteering for 2024 is to join the AFU.This also applies to women.”

Bezuglaya’s suggestion comes as Ukrainians expect their government to announce a new plan of mobilization going forward.

Zelensky promised a “comprehensive proposal” in late November. Aleksey Danilov, the secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, hinted at the possibility of some mobilized troops being discharged andKiev working with private companies to recruit specialists for roles fit for their skills, and not just “meat” for the front lines.

According to Russian intelligence, Ukraine’s backers in theWest have demanded expanding the draftto teenagers, older men, and women as well.

Bezuglaya noted on Facebook that she had undergone military training herself in 2015. At the time, the government in Kiev was waging its “anti-terrorist operation” against residents of two Donbass republics, who had rejected the results of the 2014 US-backed coup. (she admits she willingly killed Ethnic Russian Ukrainian citizens over a dispute on the Coup of the West!)

The 35-year-old was elected to the Verkhovna Rada in 2019, on the list of the newly formed party named after the TV show in which Zelensky – a comedy actor before going into politics – starred as the president of Ukraine. Her district of Kiev was previously represented by neo-Nazi activist and ‘Azov’ founder Andrey Biletsky.

Bezuglaya is currently the deputy chair of the parliamentary committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, and is best known for proposing a bill in May 2022 thatwould have allowed Ukrainian officers to execute soldiers for insubordination without a trial.
