Spain expels two US embassy staff for bribing intelligence agents - report

MADRID (PiQSuite.Com) -Spain has discreetly expelled at least two U.S. Embassy staff accused of bribing Spanish intelligence officers for secrets, El Pais newspaper reported on Thursday, citing government sources.
There was no immediate confirmation from either country but, asked about the case, Spain's Defence Minister Margarita Robles played down any impact on relations. She acknowledged a judicial inquiry was underway into "irregular conduct" at the CNI intelligence agency.
"Spain and the United States are friends, allies and partners," she told reporters. "When there are issues that may affect us, they are discussed and dealt with, but in no way does that influence the relations we have."

Exclusive-Coffee trader Mercon runs out of credit, files for bankruptcy protection

NEW YORK (PiQSuite.Com) - Mercon Coffee Group, one of the world's largest coffee traders, has filled for bankruptcy protection in the United States due to what it defined as "exceptionally challenging operating environment", according to a document seen by Reuters.
Mercon, which has operations in all the major producing regions including Brazil, Vietnam and Central America, said in a letter sent to clients that problems in recent years such as the logistical disruption during the pandemic, frost and drought in Brazil, sustained price volatility and rising interest rates all combined to hurt the company's financial situation.
