People do this to themselves when they identify as a certain religion or nationality.
If you actually live in the Nation, that is your nationality. Your Nationality should not be where your ancestors immigrated from.
Where I live there are a bunch of Mexicans flying their Mexican flags because they still identify as Mexican even though they are supposedly US citizen.
People perpetuate their own divisions.
If they didn't ride around with Mexican flags on their cars and have Mexican flags in front of their houses then people wouldn't know what they claim to be.
They might look Mexican, but they could be Puerto Rican, or South American, or from a number of other countries, but they identify themselves as Mexican even though they don't live in Mexico.
So people do this to themselves.
Don't fly a flag from a country that your ancestors are from if you don't want to self identify.
