West wants to replace Zelensky – Russia’s top spy

The Ukrainian president is seen by Kiev’s backers as a potential barrier to peace negotiations, Moscow’s intelligence chief has claimed

Western officials are discussing the potential removal of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky from power, the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergey Naryshkin, claimed on Monday. The spy chief outlinedthere are numerous reasons why Zelensky is seen as undesirable, the most significant being his lack of flexibility regarding the interests of the West.

According to the SVR chief, the West believes theUkrainian president has gone too far in fostering his image of an uncompromising hawk in the conflict with Russia. In the event of the need to “freeze” the hostilities, this would mean Zelensky is no longer useful in any potential negotiations, Naryshkin claimed.

“According to the US intelligence services, with the way the situation in the Ukrainian theater of war is developing,the need [to freeze the conflict] may come soon,” the spy chief stated.

Naryshkin further claimed that a replacement for Zelensky was being considered due to his unfulfilled promises to defeat Russia on the battlefield,widespread corruption in Ukraine, and the leader’s disrespect when dealing with foreign sponsors. Zelensky has officially decreed that any negotiations with Moscow are impossible as long as Russian President Vladimir Putin remains in power.

Alternatives to Zelensky were discussedon the sidelines ofNovember’s meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, according to Naryshkin. Potential options purportedly include the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, Valery Zaluzhny, military intelligence chief Kirill Budanov, the head of the president’s office, Andrey Ermak, or even Kiev mayor and ex-boxer Vitaly Klitschko.

Following Kiev’s failed summer counteroffensive, Ukrainian Colonel General Aleksandr Syrsky said on Sunday that the Russian army is constantly “conducting offensive operations along the entire front.”

Zaluzhny last month referred to the situation on the front lines as a “stalemate,” admitting there was no hope for a breakthrough. Those comments reportedly fueled a growing rift between the general and the Ukrainian president.

According to the Ukrainskaya Pravda news outlet,Zelensky has resorted to creating alternative lines of commandto give orders directly to officers such as Syrsky,thus bypassing Zaluzhny“It seems that Zelensky has two kinds of the ZSU (Ukrainian armed forces): the ‘good’ guys commanded by Syrsky and other favorites, and the ‘bad’ guys who answer to Zaluzhny,” the outlet quoted a source close to the presidential administration as saying. (I hope this is all true, it’s been reported most of the Ukraine leaders have lots of assets & property in Russia.)

Ukrainians’ trust in Zaluzhny surpassed that of Zelensky even last year, the report claimed, while polls showed that the army general would beat the incumbent leader in a hypothetical presidential election. Earlier this year,Zelensky dismissed the idea of holding elections in 2024as irresponsible at a time of war.

(No wonder his wife and him are begging their asses off in the US, why aren’t the begging the EU they have given a 10% of what the US has given and altogether they are worth the same or more than the US. Orban allies and US Republicans to discuss Ukraine aid cut – Guardian

The meeting is set to take place against a backdrop of Republican ire at Washington’s continued financial aid to Kiev

Allies of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will hold talks this week withRepublicans in Washington to push for an end to the United States’ military aid to Ukraine, The Guardian reported on Sunday.

GOP officials, including sitting members of Congress,are set to meet members of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairson Monday at a summit hosted by a conservative US think tank, the newspaper claims, citing a Republican source. The two-day event, held by the Heritage Foundation, will also be attended by officials from Budapest’s embassy in Washington.

Monday is set to feature speeches about the conflict in Ukraine, the report says, with some attendees – including Republican lawmakers – invited for closed-door talks on Tuesday. The discussions are set to take place amid abackdrop of increasing frustration from some GOP figures in Washington over the Biden administration’s continued financial support for Ukraine. (Well we know Senator Vance will attend based on him being on War Room tonight)

There is no indication of which GOP figures are expected to attend the talks.

The Guardian report adds that Orban, often a vocal critic of Western aid to Ukraine,will seek to stifle military supplies from both Washington and Brussels to Kiev, as the conflict approaches its two-year mark.

“Orban is confident that the Ukraine aid will not pass in Congress,”the report said, quoting an anonymous source with ties to the Hungarian embassy. “That is why he is trying to block assistance from the EU as well.”

The White House last week warned that, without Congressional action, its budget to supply Kiev with weapons and equipment will be exhausted by the end of the year. Last week,Senate Republicans blocked a supplemental funding package for Ukraine– saying that they would only agree in exchange for increased fortification of the United States’ southern border.

Orban has also expressed his opposition to Ukraine’s proposed accession to the European Union (EU), calling the idea “unfounded and poorly prepared” on X (formerly Twitter) earlier this month.

The Heritage Foundation has also expressed opposition to Ukraine’s financial support from the West. Last year, it published a statement entitled ‘Ukraine Aid Pack Puts America Last’. Earlier this year, the conservative organization’s vice-president, Victoria Coates, posted to social media that “It’s time to end the blank, undated checks for Ukraine.”

The foundation is also leading the Project 2025 campaign, which bills itself as a plan to lobby for the reshaping of the US federal government in the event of a Republican victory in next year’s presidential election.

Russia attacking on all fronts – senior Ukrainian commander

The battlefield situation remains difficult for Kiev, Colonel General Aleksandr Syrsky has said

Russian troops are attacking Ukrainian positions in all areas along the conflict front line, the commander of Ukraine’s ground forces, Colonel General Aleksandr Syrsky, has said.

In a Telegram post on Sunday, Syrsky acknowledged that“the operational situation in the east remains difficult” and that the Russian military “doesn’t stop conducting offensive operations along the entire front.”

He added that he had held a meeting with fellow Ukrainian commanders, who have been “on the defensive in the eastern direction,” to analyze the situation and plan further steps.

Decisions were made at the gathering to“ensure the sustainability of our defenses, preserve the lives of our soldiers, and rationally use the ammunition,” Syrsky stressed. President VladimirZelensky announcedin late November that Ukrainian forces wouldswitch from attacking to building fortifications, acknowledging that Kiev’s much-hyped counteroffensive, which began in early June and aimed to cut Russia’s land bridge to Crimea,had ended without success.

According to Russian estimates, Ukraine has lost over 125,000 troops and 16,000 pieces of heavy equipment in failed attempts to advance over the past half a year.

The administration of US President Joe Biden recently warned that funds for Kiev had almost run out, with attempts by the White House to push through a $106 billion ‘national security package’ for Ukraine and Israel being blocked by hardline Republicans.

A Ukrainian artilleryman told The Times last week that he had stopped targeting smaller Russian units in order to conserve shells, which are now only being used in “critical situations.”

In contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that the country’sdefense industryhad been “gaining momentum” andwas able to increase production multi-fold amid the conflict with Kiev.

Ukraine is “running out of [everything],” Putin stated. “They don’t have their own base. When you don’t have your own base, don’t have your own ideology, don’t have your own industry, don’t have your own money, don’t have anything of your own,then there is no future,”he argued.

Ukraine promises to ‘jump and dance’ for EU (says big fat angry baby FM of Ukraine)

Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba says Kiev has fulfilled the preconditions for joining the bloc and urged Brussels to “play fairly” (so he is already threatening them?)

Ukraine is willing to perform a musical number for the EU if it hasn’t yet done enough to convince Brussels that it deserves accession, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has said.

He insisted, however, that Kiev has already checked all the key boxes in its bid to join the bloc, and called for member states to recognize its efforts. (#1: stop being so corrupt! They have never achieved that since the 1990’s)

Speaking ahead of a meeting of EU diplomatic heads in Brussels on Monday, Kuleba said, “All key Venice Commission recommendations have beenincorporated into Ukrainian legislation,” (which doesn’t mean it's implemented into society, writing a law is easy, obeying a law, not so much) referring to the EU’s advisory body whose prime focus is constitutional law.

“We can jump, we can dance if that is requested in addition,” the Ukrainian minister added.

He urged the bloc to “play fairly,” saying, “If we are told to do something, and we do that, that must be registered as a result.” (Dense angry fat baby, threatening prospective parents! Stupid move.)

Speaking to France’s Le Parisien newspaper ahead of the European Council summit, which will take place on Thursday and Friday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Sunday that the bloc’s leaders“will discuss the opening of accession negotiations, not accession itself.”

She added thatif talks ever do proceed towards accession, the necessary process would be lengthy. (Oh shit this is bad. But reallyUkraine has done the steps multiple times, bit never stopped drinking from the tap of corruption!)

Von der Leyen praised Kiev for implementing “profound reforms” in recent months, stating that its eventual “accession goes in the direction of history.”

Her latest comment came a month after the Commission recommended launching membership talks with Ukraine. However, the final say rests with the leaders of the current 27 member states, with unanimous consent required to set negotiations in motion.

Following the EU executive body’s recommendation last month, Austrian Foreign MinisterAlexander Schallenberg warned against fast-tracking Ukraine’s membershipbid while leaving other hopefuls “on the fast lane.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has also publicly argued thatKiev is “in no way ready” to join the EU. Media outlet EUObserver reported in November that several other nations, including France, were not eager to see Ukraine in the European club any time soon.

As recently as this week, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto reiterated his country’s position in a Facebook post, writing that a “majority of European politicians want to make such important decisions which are entirely unprepared and lack strategic agreement on the future of Europe.”

He stressed thatBudapest “will not give in to any pressure… irrespective of where that is coming from, from whom, and what kind of blackmail it is or promise.”

For years, the Ukrainian government has cited accession to the bloc as one of its priorities, with little actual progress made. Ukraine officially applied for membership in February 2022, days after Russia launched its military operation against Kiev.

Time for peace talks – former Zelensky adviser

Aleksey Arestovich believes the president’s cultivated “hero” persona has locked Kiev into conflict*

Now is the time to start thinking about negotiating peace with Russia, with the situation looking more hopeless on the front line, a former adviser to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said.

Aleksey Arestovich told Inews that theZelensky has become a hostage to his own propaganda due to his propensity to “play the hero in parliaments around the world.” The former presidential adviser and spokesman, who has fallen out of favor with Kiev, said Zelensky currently “thinks not about the national interestbut about his own position.”

Arestovich recently announced that he would stand against Zelensky for the presidency, and would campaign on a platform of peace.

With the cost of the war mounting andKiev’s death toll rising to around 300,000, the former adviser said it was past time to start discussing terms for peace.

“For Russia, it’s for Ukraine not to join NATO, and for us it is to stop this war. These are great conditions to start a real discussion – not only between Ukraine and Russia – about a new system of collective security in Europe,”he said. (This was one of the most hateful aggressive guy against Russians.)

Arestovich said that Ukraine was in a far stronger position to negotiate in spring 2022, after Russia’s troops were closer to Kiev, and suggested that then-UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson may have undermined the peace talks.

At that time, Russia was seeking protection for the Russian language, the reduction of Kiev’s army, and a turn away from NATO, Arestovich revealed to the news outlet, claiming to have detailed knowledge of the negotiations that took place in Istanbul.After Johnson’s visit to Kiev in April, he said talks were swiftly terminated.

David Arakhamia, a Ukrainian MP who headed Kiev’s delegation in the spring 2022 negotiations with Russia, said back in November that Moscow had been ready to end the war if Ukraine promised not to join NATO.

“When we returned from Istanbul,Boris Johnson came to Kiev and said that we wouldn’t sign anything with them at all, and that we should just fight,” he told Ukrainian media.

A spokesperson for Johnson has dismissed this, saying the decision to fight was made because of the “iron resolve of President Zelensky and the people of Ukraine,” wrote Inews. (Really “the iron resolve of P. Zelensky?” KEK)

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has reaffirmed that Russia would prefer to reach its goals in Ukraine via “political and diplomatic means.” Commenting on Tuesday, he said “we are still ready for negotiations.”

President Zelensky signed a formal decree early in October stating that any negotiations with Russia under President Vladimir Putin are “impossible.”
