Baikonur ban: Russia prohibits social networks at major space facility in Kazakhstan

The head of the Kazakhstan-based Russian space launch facility, Baikonur, has banned all staff from using social networks in a bid to boost security and discipline.

“In order to prevent any leaks of classified information and to strengthen work discipline all workers of the facility are forbidden from using personal mobile phones and tablets for accessing websites, social networks and message exchange during working hours,” said Baikonur Director Yevgeniy Rakovskiy in a written order, as quoted by RIA Novosti. The letter also contains a list of the banned pages, applications and services.

Lots of social networks being banned across the globe. India (apparently they can't handle the gossip). Makes some sense here, but what do they do with the solders when they go on leave, wipe their brains.

Chinese military has built Star Wars-like laser-firing AK-47s capable of setting people on FIRE half a mile away, researchers claim

Handheld weapon is capable of firing from half a mile away using energy beam

It cannot be seen but causes 'instant carbonisation' of human skin

The weapon can burn through clothes in a split second, researchers claim

The weapon weighs around the same as an AK-47 (three kilos, or 6.6lbs)

The Chinese military has built a Star Wars-like laser AK-47 capable of causing 'pain beyond endurance', according to researchers.

The handheld weapon can hit targets half a mile away using an energy beam that cannot be seen but causes 'instant carbonisation' of human skin.

The weapon, which is powerful enough to pass through windows, can burn through clothes in a split second, claim scientists who have not been named due to the sensitivity of the project.

Sources say the rifle is ready to be mass produced and will first be distributed to police anti-terrorism squads - though no date has been given for deployment.

Here's the downside, if:

It's raining it won't work

If there is any kind of smoke, fog or dust, it won't work

If the person is wearing reflective clothing it wont work

and your only gonna get two shots and your battery is gonna be dead.

and your also probably a cooled laser which means your gonna have to have liquid nitrogen or liquid CO2 to keep it cool enough.

Your probably talking a couple a hundred jewels, have to look it up to be sure.

It's a very expensive ineffectual piece of equipment. Basically what your talking about here is a 3rd degree pencil lead size burn. Lasers are great in a vacuum, but you try to use them in the atmosphere (air around us) and there are two many factors that don't make them practical.

Not sure why the Chinese even bothered to announce it but for the fact most people are so poorly educated even the basic function of how a laser works, is beyond their mental acumen.
