That airport aurora has been on fire for over 7 hours since the sun went down…greens and reds.
Imagine being an SR-71 pilot at >80K feet (24+ km) and the auroras start around 50 km up. You're halfway to them and with almost no atmosphere in between. Perks of the j.o.b.
Use the preview slider to go back and see what was in the sky at the time. Lots of the earlier ones in the night from that location had plenty of reds (high altitude ionized oxygen ~100 km) mixed in with the greens…low alt oxygen ~50 km.

Not seeing it. I was talking about an aircraft and auroras, and the clip you posted is referencing the Karman line; which I didn't. It was just random daydreaming, so I'm not invested in the details, it was conceptual and in that, it remains. There is vanishingly small amounts of atmosphere to very high altitudes. Auroras depend on it.
