ThankQ for the response. I believe the problem is not so much the constitution, but the pledge, which really should be recited in schools from early on. We need to ingrain these points in the pledge due their continuous use at various events: schools, sports events, government events, military events, oath of office events) and so on.
Even though the defense part is said at oath of office events, it is apparent that it is not enough of a reminder. So I would place them where they would have the greatest affect.
