New road plans promise to ‘charge electric vehicles while driving’ – people are calling it a ‘tremendous evolution’
ELECTRIC vehicle owners have been notified of new road plans that promise to act as a charging station as cars drive on them.
In Florida, between Lake and Orange Counties, EV enthusiasts are excited about what has been dubbed a "tremendous evolution."
The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) confirmed the approval of an expressway development between the counties that would link Highway 27 and State Road 429 on Thursday, per NBC affiliate WESH.
CFX's governing board unanimously approved the first phase of the toll road's construction, which will be called State Road 516.
The authority's Manager of Community Engagement, Brian Hutchings, told the outlet that the conception came out of data that showed only a few roads connected the counties, which are among the fastest growing areas in the state.
"They’re two of the fastest-growing regions in the entire state of Florida,” Hutchings emphasized of Lake and Orange County.
The first phase of the roadway is expected to cost about $218 million.
Its total completion price sits at around $534 million, something that Lake County Commissioner Sean Parks noted as well worth it considering it could relieve traffic congestion and provide revolutionary services to electric vehicle drivers.
“This will be an immense relief for the region,” Parks told WESH.
“Quite frankly, it'll be a good economic driver as well. There’s an interchange that’s planned that will promote the right kind of jobs and create a job center for us in Lake County.”

A Tesla Cybertruck gets stuck in California forest. Let the trolling begin
After a video of a Tesla Cybertruck sliding down a snowy embankment with a Christmas tree tied to its roof went viral on social media last week, the U.S. Forest Service saw a golden opportunity.
The agency could use the resulting internet imbroglio to educate people about the best practices for off-road vehicles on public lands.
In a move that Forest Service spokesman Benjamin Cossel allowed was “a little bit cheeky,” the Stanislaus National Forest issued a news release offering to partner with Tesla on “an education campaign regarding off-road vehicle use on public lands.”
“We are always thrilled when new opportunities to explore our public lands become available,” Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken said in the release. “But we feel there may be work to be done in educating users about our Motor Vehicle Use Maps.”
