A Profile In Cowardice
Strip down the education to what is needed/practical to reduce the cost. My father went to college in the 1950s and graduated without debt by living at home and only paying tuition (college and home in same city). Now college is an "experience", and you are "not doing it right" if you strictly go to attend classes. The classroom tuition and room and board are usually bundled together making the total package very costly. Also, bloated administrative costs and "expert"/"published" professors who earn far more than they are worth. Finally, it is up to the customer/student to understand how much they might expect to earn with the degree, and whether they will be able to pay the loan. Caveat Emptor has been a saying for more than 2000 years for a reason. The idea that I should pool my money (tax dollars) so that someone else can pursue their passion is ridiculous.
