They were all instructed to go to that island to recieve orders from their blackmailers. It is how they control the world of politics, finance and technology. Find corrupt, blackmailable young politicians, entrap them, then promote them in a good light while character assasinate the opposition through their media empire. Before you know it, the will of the people can be totally subverted and actually deemed worthless. Then they can finally milk that country like a cow, while making laws that protect them from milking said country, and laws for jailing people who notice who is doing the fucking milking. Simple.
