I'm on SSI, and its not easy but can be done. I got lucky when Trumpy was in office and kicked illegals out of housing so I have a voucher (sec 8) so I pay $96 month for a one bedroom. I get medicaid and about $200 for snaps (groceries) and heat assistance which isn't enough but definitely helps.

I get discounts for phone and wifi too which anyone with snaps qualifies for.

The killer is car insurance, things like new tires, gas prices and what will happen when my car falls apart. Obviously I can't afford nice things but I have found some great stuff at yard sales.

It really sucks because stimulus payments really helped so where are they now when everything is more expensive.

I'm not saying the disabled shouldn't get more but its very bittering to seeing illegals get so much (and they are healthy).

technically I can move and live anywhere that I can find a landlord willing to accept my voucher. My apartment rent is $850 total to my landlord and yes its very hard to find a place. You can sometimes get a voucher to cover security but most landlord won't take them and you can't save up because when you are on ssi you aren't allowed to have savings even if you could stash a few bucks away so moving is tricky.

I'm in upstate NY so don't even talk to me about Santa Monica. Sigh.

I agree but the reasoning is why give money to someone who already has money or doesn't need it, so I kind of agree with that.

I actually think that all americans deserve a modest living income of a few $K per month and this country should have better priorities and make it happen, without being too socialist or commie.

Very true. I know that they claim spouse abuse and get cheap housing and then the guy moves in.

When I got my ssi I used to have panic attacks and send 4am emails to everybody (govs, senators etc, zero response) but the ones that went to Trump's white house were answered and I'm certain that they expedited my sec 8 and another time I contacted whitehouse.gov (still Trump) about SSI I got a call from SSA at 8am next day.

I'm certain he saved my life.
