Take a look at this video clip of the Moscow Metro. What do you notice first? You might be surprised by the beautiful Christmas decorations; it’s quite unexpected to see such a celebration of a Christian holiday inside a subway train. Another thing that stands out is the well-dressed, polite, and respectful passengers. There’s no uncivilized behavior like public defecation or any acts of violence or assault. How odd, right? And bonus: these days, Russia is even less “communist” than Biden’s disgraceful USA.
Meanwhile, in New York City, taking the subway can feel like a crapshoot on whether you’ll arrive safely at your destination. Contrary to what the mainstream propaganda media might claim, these subways are not “safer than ever before.” In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

This year, six people have lost their lives to violence on New York City subways: a man pushed to Manhattan tracks in January, a teen shot at a Bronx station in April, three people stabbed in three separate Brooklyn and Manhattan incidents in spring and summer and Jordan Neely, put in a chokehold on a Manhattan train in May as he threatened other riders.
Two of these killings — both stabbings in Brooklyn — are recorded as justified homicides, as the stabbers acted in self-defense against aggressive attackers. (Neely’s may end up on this list as well.). Maintaining an orderly environment on the trains, as New York used to do, would have prevented this loss of life.
Six homicides this year means we’ll probably end 2023 better than we did 2022, which had 11 homicides, a level not seen in nearly three decades. That follows seven homicides each in 2020 and 2021. From 1997 to 2019, the subways saw just one or two homicides each year. So we’re nowhere near back to normal.
That’s true with all violent felonies, including rape, robbery and assault.We’ve seen 825 violent felonies through September, new MTA data show. Yes, that’s down 6% from last year.. But it’s still up 26% from 2019.
Factor in lower ridership, and you’re twice as likely to become a victim of violence compared with 2019: nearly one in 1 million subway rides today, from one in 2 million four years ago.
Meanwhile, the Moscow Metro is safe, well-lit, clean, and downright beautiful.

The European Union (EU) launched “formal infringement proceedings” into X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter owned by Big Tech mogul Elon Musk,accusing it of failing to counter illicit content and disinformation, a lack of transparency about advertising and “deceptive” design practices. The European Commission’s executive branch also vowed to permanently shut it down if the platform doesn’t immediately ban alternative media.
“The evidence we currently have is enough to formally open a proceeding against X,”Margrethe Vestager, the 27-nation bloc’s executive vice president overseeing digital policy, said in a statement. “The Commission will carefully investigate X’s compliance with the [Digital Services Act] DSA, to ensure European citizens are safeguarded online.”
The announcement of the probe comes weeks after the microblogging site was asked to provide assurances that it was complying with the terms of the European bloc’s DSA, a regulation to update theElectronic Commerce Directive 2000 regarding illegal content, transparent advertising, and disinformation. It was submitted along with the Digital Markets Act by the European Commission to the European Parliament and the Council in December 2020. Under the law, which came into effect in August, a company can be fined up to six percent of its annual global income or banned from operating in the EU if it is found to have breached the sweeping legislation.
