Ohio's 'Republican' governor, Mike DeWine, took over $40,000 from hospitals which prescribe puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for children, before vetoing a bill that would outlaw puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for children.

DeWine stunned state Republicans on Friday, vetoing House Bill 68, which would also prevent transgender athletes (dudes) from competing in girls' sports.

According to The Federalist Papers;

A review of donations from 2018 to 2023 reveals that the governor received a total of $40,300 from the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association (OCHA), Cincinnati Children’s, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and ProMedica Children’s Hospital.

The OCHA donated $10,000 to the Mike DeWine and Jon Husted Transition Fund on Dec. 28, 2018, and another $10,000 on Dec. 7, 2022, according to the report. This transition fund allows candidates to spend donations for “transition activities and inaugural celebrations,” as outlined in Ohio’s campaign finance handbook.

Affiliates of OCHA, such as Cincinnati Children’s and ProMedica, also made significant contributions. Cincinnati Children’s donated $300 on Dec. 15, 2022, and ProMedica, another affiliate of OCHA, donated $10,000 in December 2018. Nationwide Children’s, a third affiliate with OCHA, donated $5,000 in December 2018 and another $5,000 in January 2023 to the transition fund.

The Cincinnati Children's and Nationwide Children's hospitals, for example, offer gender-affirming care, including puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, and have no stated age limit guidelines for patients.

Nick Lashutka, president of the OCHA, slammed House Bill 68 during testimony, arguing that it "strips away" the rights of parents and their transgender children.

Former National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins has admitted that tunnel vision handicapped the development of public policy to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Collins, who stepped down at the end of 2021, was the superior of former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci, who along with Collins proposed and supported lockdowns as the major policy element to deal with the pandemic.

During the recently unearthed interview, interviewer Wilk Wilkinson bemoaned the fact that too few open discussions took place about the pandemic and the lockdown policy.

Collins said putting public health bureaucrats in charge meant that a one-dimensional policy would ensue.

“As a guy living inside the Beltway, feeling a sense of crisis, trying to decide what to do in some situation room in the White House with people who had data that was incomplete,” Collins said.

“We weren’t really thinking about what that would mean to Wilk and his family in Minnesota, a thousand miles away from where the virus was hitting so hard. We weren’t really considering the consequences in communities that were not New York City or some other big city,” he said.

Collins said that health experts never considered the ripple effects of their decisions.

“The public health people — we talked about this earlier and this really important point — if you’re a public health person and you’re trying to make a decision, you have this very narrow view of what the right decision is. And that is something that will save a life; it doesn’t matter what else happens,” he said.

“So you attach infinite value to stopping the disease and saving a life. You attach zero value to whether this actually totally disrupts people’s lives, ruins the economy, and has many kids kept out of school in a way that they never quite recover from. So, yeah, collateral damage,” he said.

“This is a public health mindset and I think a lot of us involved in trying to make those recommendations had that mindset and that was really unfortunate. It’s another mistake we made,” he said.

War in Gaza won’t end in 2024 - Israel

West Jerusalem has refused to entertain international calls for a ceasefire in the besieged enclave

Israel will continue to wage war in Gaza throughout 2024, Israel Defense Forces spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said in a statement on Sunday. Describing a strategic shift to what he called the “smart” management of IDF troops, Hagari revealed that five reservist brigades were being taken out of combat, supposedly to reinvigorate the Israeli economy as the country settles in for a prolonged conflict.

“The goals of the war require lengthy fighting, and we are prepared accordingly,” he said, explaining that sending the reservists back home “will result in considerable relief for the economy, and will allow them to gain strength for operations next year, and the fighting will continue and we will need them.”

The IDF spokesman’s prediction followed similar comments from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who warned during a press conference on Saturday that “many more months” of fighting still lay ahead.

The government has categorically rejected international pleas for a ceasefire amid the mounting death toll in Gaza, where its AI-enhanced bombing campaign has resulted in over 21,800 Palestinian deaths since Hamas’ October 7 surprise attack, according to the enclave’s health ministry. Another 56,000 have been seriously wounded, and 85% of the enclave’s approximately 2.3 million residents have been displaced.

The US has consistently stood by Israel throughout the current stage of the conflict, including by vetoing UN Security Council resolutions demanding a ceasefire. However, even Washington has clashed with its Middle Eastern ally over Gaza's future. Netanyahu has said the territory will remain under Israeli control after the war, while the US has called for it to be run by the Palestinian Authority as a step towards a two-state solution; the organization governs the West Bank and previously oversaw Gaza before Hamas took power following elections in 2007.

The Israeli government vehemently opposes Palestinian statehood, to the point that Netanyahu has openly boasted of his role in preventing it during several rounds of peace talks over the years.

On Sunday, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich suggested that the government “encourage migration” of Palestinians out of Gaza and reestablish the Jewish settlements that were dismantled there in 2005. In an interview with Army Radio, he observed that “the entire discussion about ‘the day after’ would be completely different” if 90% of the enclave’s Arab inhabitants would just ethnically cleanse themselves.

While an official with Netanyahu’s office subsequently told the Associated Press that “contrary to false allegations, Israel does not seek to displace the population in Gaza,” but merely looks to “enable those individuals who wish to leave to do so,” a government document leaked last month called for the mass relocation of all of the territory’s residents to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula - a plan that alarmed Palestinians and Egyptians alike.

Ukraine is a mere tool in the hands of the collective West which is using it to fight Russia, President Vladimir Putin said on Monday. He was speaking at a military hospital in Moscow where he met servicemen wounded during the ongoing conflict.

Asked about the enduring Western support for Kiev, the president said the elites of the collective West were actually the true enemy of Russia, rather than Ukraine itself.

“The point is not that they are helping our enemy, but that they are our enemy. They are solving their own problems with [Ukraine’s] hands, that’s what it’s all about,” Putin stated.

The conflict between Moscow and Kiev was orchestrated by Western elites, who seek to defeat Russia, he suggested. However, the collective West has been unable to achieve its goals, with the failure already showing in the change of its rhetoric on the conflict, the president explained.

Those who only yesterday were talking about the need to inflict a ‘strategic defeat’ on Russia are now looking for words on how to quickly end the conflict.

“We want to end the conflict too, and as quickly as possible, but only on our terms. We have no desire to fight forever, but we are not going to give up our positions either,” Putin said.

Former US official arrested in Miami on charges of being unregistered agent for Cuba

A former U.S. ambassador with a long career in the federal government was arrested Friday on charges of working secretly since the early 1980s for Cuba’s intelligence services as an unregistered “covert” foreign agent in the United States, according to an FBI complaint filed in Miami federal court.

Victor Manual Rocha, 73, a former ambassador to Bolivia who had also worked as a senior diplomat in the U.S. Interests Section in Cuba, spent the weekend in custody at the Federal Detention Center in Miami and made his first appearance in federal court Monday afternoon. Federal prosecutors said they plan to file a grand jury indictment Tuesday and seek his detention at a bond hearing Wednesday before Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres, who signed the complaint for Rocha’s arrest.

The White House Goes Rogue: Secret Surveillance Program Breaks All the Laws

The government wants us to believe that we have nothing to fear from its mass spying programs as long as we’ve done nothing wrong.

Don’t believe it.

It doesn’t matter whether you obey every law. The government’s definition of a “bad” guy is extraordinarily broad, and it results in the warrantless surveillance of innocent, law-abiding Americans on a staggering scale.

For instance, it was recently revealed that the White House, relying on a set of privacy loopholes, has been sidestepping the Fourth Amendment by paying AT&T to allow federal, state, and local law enforcement to access – without a warrant – the phone records of Americans who are not suspected of a crime.

This goes way beyond the NSA’s metadata collection program.

Operated during the Obama, Trump and now the Biden presidencies, this secret dragnet surveillance program (formerly known as Hemisphere and now dubbed Data Analytical Services) uses its association with the White House to sidestep a vast array of privacy and transparency laws.

According to Senator Ron Wyden, Hemisphere has been operating without any oversight for more than a decade under the guise of cracking down on drug traffickers.

This is how the government routinely breaks the law and gets away with it: in the so-called name of national security.

More than a trillion domestic phone records are mined through this mass surveillance program every year, warrantlessly targeting not only those suspected of criminal activity but anyone with whom they might have contact, including spouses, children, parents, and friends.

It’s not just law enforcement agencies investigating drug crimes who are using Hemisphere to sidestep the Fourth Amendment, either. Those who have received training on the program reportedly include postal workers, prison officials, highway patrol officers, border cops, and the National Guard.

It’s a program ripe for abuse, and you can bet it’s getting abused.

Surveillance, digital stalking and the data mining of the American people – weapons of compliance and control in the government’s hands – haven’t made America any safer, and they certainly aren’t helping to preserve our freedoms.

Indeed, America will never be safe as long as the U.S. government is allowed to shred the Constitution.

The Fourth Amendment was intended to serve as a protective forcefield around our persons, our property, our activities, our communications and our movements. It keeps the government out of our private business except in certain, extenuating circumstances.

Those extenuating circumstances are spelled out clearly: government officials must have probable cause that criminal activity is afoot (a higher legal standard than “reasonable suspicion”), which is required by the Constitution before any government official can search an individual or his property.

Venezuela Sends 6,000 Troops to Guyana Border, Says They’ll Stay Until British Warship Leaves

Tensions over the fate of Guyana’s Essequibo region continue to rise with reports Venezuela is deploying some 6,000 troops into the border region to conduct exercises over the disputed region. The deployment is in response to Britain’s deployment of the HMS Trent off the Guyana coast.

President Maduro argued the British arrival violates an extent deal between Guyana and Venezuela and constitutes a threat to both Venezuela and a violation of Latin American sovereignty.

Britain was critical of the Venezuelan exercises and demanded they cease. The HMS Trent is a relatively small ship, a River-Class patrol vessel with a complement of an estimated 34-45. Britain described the deployment as part of a series of regional engagements.

The Essequibo tensions were fueled largely by the early December referendum by Venezuela calling to annex the region after the discovery of oil reserves. The sparsely populated territory’s ownership is a long-standing dispute, and it amounts to most of Guyana’s overall land mass. The question of Essequibo’s legal fate was referred to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), though Venezuela has rejected their jurisdiction on the matter.

Britain claimed the region for itself in a tribunal with the US in 1899 and granted it to Guyana in 1966 upon its independence from Britain.

As a party to the deal, the US has become increasingly involved in the Guyana dispute, conducting flight operations in the area. The flights are referred to as a “joint operation.” US interest in the region may center both on failed attempts to impose regime change on Venezuela and on Exxon Mobil’s discovery of the region’s oil. Exxon Mobil is presently attempting to exploit the offshore oil reserves.

The Israeli army has destroyed more than 200 archeological and ancient sites out of 325 that were registered in the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Anadolu News Agency quoted the Government Media Office in Gaza as saying that the sites include ancient churches, mosques, schools, museums and other different historical and archeological sites and monuments.

“The ancient and archeological sites destroyed by the army date back to the Phoenician and Roman ages, others date back between 800 BC and 1,400, while others were built 400 years ago,” the Office said in a statement.

The Great Omari Mosque, the Byzantine church in Jabaliya, the Shrine of Al-Khadir in Deir al-Balah city in central Gaza Strip, and the Blakhiya Byzantine cemetery (The Anthedon of Palestine), northwestern Gaza City were among the sites.

The statement noted that other sites were severely damaged, including the Greek Orthodox Saint Porphyrius Church, the 400-year-old Al-Saqqa House and the Sayed al-Hashim Mosque, which is one of the oldest mosques in Gaza.

The Geneva-based rights group, Euro-Med Monitor, said on November 20 that Israel deliberately destroyed archeological and historical monuments in the Gaza Strip, and accused it of “explicitly targeting Palestinian cultural heritage.”

Gaza is rich in history. “Evidence of Hyksos, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic and other civilizations which dwelled in that region for thousands of years, is a testimony to the historical significance of the area,” Palestinian journalist and author Ramzy Baroud wrote in a recent article.

Graham Urges Biden To ‘Stop The Inflow’ Of Migrants To Get Ukraine Aid

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) implored President Joe Biden on Sunday to take a strong position on securing the southern border if he wants to secure more aid to Ukraine.

The hawkish Republican lawmaker offered some advice to the Biden administration during an interview with CBS News as officials warned of a record month in which U.S. Border Patrol took into custody more than 225,000 migrants who crossed the border in December.

The request includes some money for border security, but any momentum toward passing the cash infusion has stalled because of Republican lawmakers demanding immigration reforms.

Biden recently said he is “willing to make significant compromises” to “fix the broken border system.” The GOP-led House passed border legislation — H.R. 2 — earlier this year, but Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has refused to have the Senate take up the bill, dismissing what he described as “partisan right-wing demands.”

While a legislative solution is worked out, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) encouraged Biden to use executive action to end catch-and-release, stop the “exploitation” of parole authority, revive asylum cooperation agreements with Mexico, ramp up “expedited” removal of migrants who fail to qualify for asylum, and renew construction of a border wall.

Graham said he “desperately” wants to help Ukraine, but emphasized, “I cannot come back to South Carolina and talk about giving aid to Ukraine and Israel if the border’s still broken — it is not broken, it is in chaos.” He also said, “Our national security is very much at risk. So, Ukraine aid has to be tied to [the] border.”

More than 4,360 dead in Syria war in 2023: monitor

More than 4,360 people, including combatants and civilians, were killed in Syria´s civil war in 2023, in the thirteenth year since fighting began, a war monitor said on Sunday.

The figure was an increase on 2022, when 3,825 people were killed.

That was the lowest annual death toll since the conflict began in 2011 with the government's brutal crackdown on peaceful pro-democracy protests, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Nearly 200 reportedly massacred in Nigerian Christian villages

Since 2009, at least 52,250 Nigerian Christians have been killed, according to a report released in April.

Nearly 200 Christians were massacred in Nigeria as graphic videos purportedly from the incident show men, women and children who were murdered as extremist violence spreads throughout the world.

Amnesty International Nigeria said Friday on X, formerly Twitter, that 194 people were murdered on Christmas Eve in Nigeria's Plateau State, as the agency called on the country's president, Bola Tinubu, to "do more than merely condemning these horrific attacks."

Days before Amnesty's post, Tinubu wrote on X that he condemns the "heinous and brutal attacks," and he ordered security agencies to respond, called for culprits to be held accountable and ordered relief be provided to the surviving victims.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, Muslim Fulani herdsmen have clashed frequently in the area with predominantly Christian farmers.
