The Japan earthquakes are unique in that the grid pattern is evident with only a 24 hour dataset. Other grid examples require months of quakes before the pattern is evident- west Texas, Point MacKenzie Alaska, La Palma Island, etc.
Also note that all the smaller quakes compose the grid pattern. Those bigger than a 5.0 defy the grid pattern.
