The University’s endowment consists of14,172 separate fundsestablished over many years for a wide variety of purposes. Endowment fund balances are classified and
reported in accordance with donor specifications and state law. The endowment includes both donor-restricted endowment funds and funds functioning as endowment
which are not subject to donor-imposed restrictions, however decisions to spend their principal require theapproval of the Corporation and therefore are classified as Board-designated endowment funds. The majority of the endowment is invested in the GIA (Note 3).
