India sends warship after hijacking of Liberian-flagged vessel in Arabian Sea

An Indian Navy warship was moving towards a hijacked Liberian-flagged vessel in the Arabian Sea, and aircraft were closely monitoring the situation, the Indian navy said on Friday.

At least 15 Indian crew members were on board the MV Lila Norfolk, which was hijacked near Somalia's coast and the navy received information about it on Thursday evening, Indian news agency ANI, in which Reuters has a minority stake, reported earlier, citing military officials.

A Wyoming judge has denied a motion to remove Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 presidential ballot on the grounds that he is unable to serve a second term as president under the 14th Amendment.

Albany County District Court Judge Misha Westby issued the decision on Thursday, saying the matter was “dismissed without prejudice.”

Conservative lawyer Harmeet Dhillon posted two papers from the verdict on X, formerly Twitter, adding, “Not again! Yes, once again…Today, a federal judge in Wyoming rejected yet another 14th Amendment lawsuit. Bye!”

Tim Newcomb, a retired attorney, filed the Wyoming case against Trump and Senator Cynthia Lummis, a Republican from the state who refused to declare Joe Biden’s election victory, on November 1, 2023.

Chrysler-parent Stellantis will not advertise in Super Bowl

Jan 5th, 12:09:46

(PiQSuite.Com) - Chrysler-parent Stellantis said Friday it will not advertise in next month's NFL Super Bowl, citing the challenging U.S. automotive market.

In November, General Motors said it would not advertise in heavily watched NFL championship game as it cuts marketing costs. Stellantis said earlier this week it had opted not to take part in upcoming auto shows in Chicago and Washington.

Trump seeks to hold special counsel in contempt for violating pause in election case

Jan 4th, 10:10:12

By Andrew Goudsward

WASHINGTON (PiQSuite.Com) - Donald Trump's lawyers on Thursday asked a judge to hold U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith in contempt of court, accusing his office of violating an order pausing activity in its prosecution of the former president for trying to overturn his 2020 election defeat.

Trump’s legal team said Smith and prosecutors working on the case have disregarded an order from U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan by continuing to turn over evidence to the defense and filing a legal motion, according to a court filing.

Chutkan last month halted any activity that would move the case toward trial or impose the “burdens of litigation” on Trump while he appeals a previous ruling that he does not have immunity from the charges.

Trump’s lawyers accused prosecutors of making “partisan” allegations in a court filing knowing that Trump’s team would not respond while the case is paused. The filing, published last month, seeks to prevent Trump, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, from arguing during the trial that the case is politically motivated.

A spokesperson for Smith declined to comment. Prosecutors have said in court papers that they have continued to follow previously set deadlines to “help ensure that trial proceeds promptly” if Trump’s appeal is rejected.

Trump’s lawyers and Smith, who is overseeing the prosecution, have repeatedly squared off over the timing of the trial, which is currently scheduled to begin in March.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges that he led a series of schemes to block the certification of the election results following his defeat to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020.

A federal appeals court is scheduled to hear arguments on Trump’s immunity claim on Tuesday.
