A friend on FB posted a a meme that suggested that trans women are 4x more likely to be murdered in America than cis women. These kinds of stats piss me off because they neglect the fact that there are multiples in magnitude fewer trans women than cis women in America. Sure, mourn the 27 trans murdered in 2016, but that number still pales in comparison to the 3208 cis women murdered in the same year.
Anyhoo… all this to say that i got to clicking around on statista.com after being duly annoyed by what i wrote above and came across a graph of the number of murders by state.
I was shocked to learn that California had the most murders in 2016. Always thought it was Chicago/Illinois. Guess not - they placed third, behind Texas.
So, California and Texas accounted for nearly 20% of all murders in the US in 2016. That's nearly as many murders as the next EIGHT states combined.
Border states.
Seriously. Build that f*cking wall.
Pic relevant.
