The Iowa Caucuses Will Be The Coldest Ever, Candidates Prepare

The first votes for the 2024 presidential election cycle will take place in Iowa.

Iowans will brave the record-cold temperatures on Monday to travel to caucus locations around The Hawkeye State.

On Monday morning, Iowa residents woke up to temperatures in the minus 10s. When factoring in cold winds, temperatures even have the potential to plummet to as low as minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Today is turning out to be the coldest Iowa caucus day in history, dating back to 1972. Highs thus at Des Moines (+1°) & Waterloo (-1°) have been 15 & 16 degrees colder than the previous coldest caucus day. The coldest caucus record in Des Moines, Iowa, prior to 2024 was on January 19th, 2004. The high that day was 16 degrees Fahrenheit, while the low was 2 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, fast forward twenty years, and the low is negative 13 degrees Fahrenheit, while the high is -3 degrees Fahrenheit.

Exposure to freezing temperatures can result in frostbite within just 10 minutes of skin exposure, posing a potential life-threatening risk during prolonged periods of exposure.

45th President Donald Trump is the leading favorite to win the Monday evening vote.

FINAL IOWA POLLS PREDICT SWEEPING VICTORY FOR TRUMP

Final polls in Iowa predicted that former President Donald Trump would sweep the state by an estimated 32.8-point lead just before caucusing began Monday.

Polls conducted by the Trafalgar Group over the weekend from Jan. 12 to Jan. 14 found that out of 1,092 likely GOP voters, 52.1 percent stated they would support Trump as the Republican nominee.

With over 70 percent of the poll voters stating that they would be voting in the 2024 Republican Caucus, Trump swept the lead by slightly over 32 points, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hitting second at roughly 19.3 percent and former South Caroline Gov. Nikki Haley sitting at 18.5 percent in third place, according to the poll.

The 2024 Iowa caucus polls officially open Monday, with Republicans expected to be flocking to the ballots despite freezing temperatures, according to Reuters.

As various events have had to be canceled by candidates due to the weather over the weekend, Iowa’s caucuses require voters to gather in person, with caucus meetings starting at 8 p.m. ET, the outlet reported.

Trump has led the state for months, appearing to maintain above a 20-point lead for the predicted GOP nominee election within Iowa, according to FiveThirtyEight data.

Wind chill warnings have hit across Iowa, with chill advisories cautioning residents in the northeastern part of the state, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Temperatures are expected to hit roughly -4, with wind chill values as low as -25, the NWS reported.

MARCO RUBIO ISSUES LAST-MINUTE ENDORSEMENT FOR TRUMP IN MAJOR BLOW TO DESANTIS

In a blow to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has issued a last-minute endorsement of President Donald Trump on the eve of the Iowa caucuses.

It’s unclear why Rubio waited until the day before the Iowa caucuses to issue his endorsement, but it nevertheless gives Trump a strategic advantage over Gov. DeSantis, as yet another Florida lawmaker has pledged support to the 45th president.

In a statement posted on X, Sen. Rubio wrote, “When Trump was in WH I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us.”

He further explained, “I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created.”

Rubio’s endorsement over the weekend coincided with a surprise endorsement on the ground in Iowa at a final Team Trump Commit to Caucus Rally in Indianola, where North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum announced his public support of President Donald Trump on Sunday.

In the governor’s endorsement on Sunday, he noted that Trump’s likely win in the Iowa caucuses would “send a message to the nation and send a message to the world that Donald J. Trump will make America GREAT again.”

President Donald Trump has enjoyed a long list of high-level endorsements in the 2024 presidential race, and Sen. Rubio’s last-minute endorsement represents a big win for him in the fight for Florida endorsements in DeSantis’s home state.

Last year, Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., also endorsed President Trump along with Florida GOP Reps. Byron Donalds and Anna Paulina Luna.

MAGA ALLIES ARE OUT IN FULL FORCE IN IOWA

President Donald Trump’s closest allies were out in full force in the great state of Iowa on Monday, showing their support for his 2024 reelection campaign as the caucuses loomed imminently at the end of the day.

The temperatures in Iowa have been extremely frigid, but the president’s allies seemed confident that snow, ice, and wind chill will not deter Trump voters from caucusing for the 45th president on Monday evening.

Trump ally and Republican Arizona Senate candidate told Steve Bannon on “War Room” that she thought the media was overblowing the weather conditions.

She explained, “Iowans are used to this…Iowans are tough people, they deal with cold weather for months on end in the wintertime. So, I don’t think they’re as concerned as the media is trying to hype everything up.”

Another Trump ally and surrogate, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., headed to the Hawkeye State this week in support of President Trump, posting a video on X to encourage people to show up and caucus for the president.

She wrote, “TODAY IS THE BIG DAY, IOWA! Snow is covering the ground in below ZERO temperatures, but that hasn’t stopped the dedicated @TeamTrump volunteers from showing up to Trump HQ to make phone calls to turn out voters around the clock.”

Rep. Greene added that Monday night’s prospective win would be “historic for President Trump and MAGA!”

Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, was also on the ground in Iowa on Monday, urging state residents to get involved and show up to caucus for Trump.

Standing in the snow beside a large Trump sign, Rep. Jackson explained, “We’re on in Iowa today, we’re campaigning for President Trump, we’re making sure that everybody gets out and caucuses for the president…this is where it starts. This is day one of the landslide that’s going to take our country back!”

President Donald Trump is in a strong position to win the Iowa caucuses on Monday night. A final pre-caucus poll from The Trafalgar Group showed that he had a 32-point lead over Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., foreshadowing a very likely Trump landslide in the state’s caucuses this week.

TRUMP: ‘A VOTE FOR VIVEK IS A WASTED VOTE’

President Donald Trump made it clear on Monday that while businessman Vivek Ramaswamy has been playing it “CUTE” with MAGA voters, caucusing for the political newcomer would ultimately be a waste in the important Iowa caucuses.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump shared, “A VOTE FOR VIVEK IS A WASTED VOTE. I LIKE VIVEK, BUT HE PLAYED IT TOO ‘CUTE’ WITH US. CAUCUS TONIGHT, VOTE FOR DONALD J. TRUMP, BUILD UP THE NUMBERS!!!”

Ramaswamy has built the majority of his support up over the past year by remaining MAGA-friendly and allying himself with the policies that made President Donald Trump successful.

However, in a last-minute play in the state of Iowa, Ramaswamy posted a photo of himself with a group of young men in Iowa wearing shirts that said, “SAVE TRUMP[,] VOTE VIVEK.”

The campaign messaging drew the ire of Trump supporters online, who have seen Ramaswamy’s “clear message” from X as a sign of disloyalty to MAGA in a time where remaining united in the GOP primary has become a priority to most.

Another final Iowa caucus poll

President Trump also initially responded to Ramaswamy’s political stunt last week, writing succinctly, “Vivek started his campaign as a great supporter, ‘the best President in generations,’ etc. Unfortunately, now all he does is disguise his support in the form of deceitful campaign tricks. Very sly, but a vote for Vivek is a vote for the ‘other side’ — don’t get duped by this. Vote for ‘TRUMP,’ don’t waste your vote!”

The president warned that Vivek was “not MAGA” and urged Iowans to move powerfully on Monday to take back America from “CROOKED JOE BIDEN AND THE RADICAL LEFT DEMOCRATS AND THUGS WHO ARE DESTROYING IT.”

In Iowa, President Trump is holding a historically high lead of 28 points over runner-up and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, according to the Des Moines Register. Ramaswamy is 40 points behind Trump in their poll.
