Former Army captain charged with murder of two women, dog in Apex shooting
Police charged Harry Hardman, 37, of Apex, with two counts of murder and one count of animal cruelty.
The man charged with murder after a shooting in an Apex neighborhood was identified Tuesday as former U.S. Army Capt. Harry Hardman.
Hardman, 37, was arrested immediately after the shooting Monday afternoon. He faces charges of murder and animal cruelty.
Neighbors say one of the victims was Nancy Taylor.
Family members said the other victim is Gabrielle Raymond. She was 36 years old.
In addition to the women, a dog was also shot and killed.
According to Raymond's parents, Raymond and Taylor were friends.
Raymond's parents said their daughter worked at RTI.
Apex police are still working to learn what connections the victims had to Hardman. Police said Hardman knew his victims.
Around 3 p.m. Monday, Apex police officers were called to the area of Brussels Drive at Chipping Drive in response to a disturbance. While en route, the disturbance escalated to a shots fired call.
When officers arrived at the home on Chipping Drive, they found the two women and the dog. Both women were taken to the hospital, where they died. The dog died at the scene. Neighbors told police they heard up to eight gunshots.
Police said they found the victims outside in the yard of the home.
As shots continued to ring out, officers followed the sound to the 1600 block of Brussels Drive, where they found Hardman, and took him into custody without incident.
The U.S. Army said Hardman was a former captain, who served from 2005 to 2019. The West Point Association of Graduates said Hardman graduated from the military academy in 2009.
