Fourth of July - Secret Service Warns For Gas Station Credit Card Scams

Planning to go on a road trip or just simply going out this Fourth of July holiday, and gas up along the way? Well, the Secret Service has a strong warning to the public to be extra vigilant when stopping by for a gas pump as fraudsters are targeting to steal people’s credit card information at gas stations.

The Secret Service reveals that scammers have been installing skimmers - those small devices placed inside the pumps which copy customers’ credit card data. Just over the past weekend, in fact, the Secret Service canvassed the country in search of said illegal devices and recovered 59 of them from 85 locations.

3 more Supreme Court candidates meet with Trump

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump spoke with three more potential Supreme Court candidates on Tuesday as a key senator privately aired concerns about one of the contenders.

As Trump weighs his options, he has heard from Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who has expressed reservations about one top potential nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, according to a person familiar with the call but not authorized to publicly disclose details of it. The activity around Kavanaugh was an early glimpse of the frenzied jockeying around the short list of candidates in the run-up to Trump's July 9 announcement.

Report: San Francisco convention canceled over dirty streets, homeless

  • A large medical convention that has been coming to San Francisco since the 1980s is looking for a new host city because of the dirty streets and the homeless issue plaguing the area, according to San Francisco Travel, the city's convention and visitors bureau.

KRON4 spoke with the executive director of the hotel council of San Francisco.

It represents the hotels and their guests.

They are very worried what this could mean for the hotels in San Francisco and all the businesses touched by tourism dollars when the big conventions come in town.

"When these things leave, it affects all of us–the taxi, the hotel, the restaurant," Hotel Council of San Francisco Executive Director Kevin Carroll said. "We need to be concerned."

SF Travel does not want to name the five-day trade show that draws 15,000 attendees and pumps about $40 million into the local economy because they are hoping to lure them back in the future. The convention told SF travel "that they loved the city, but post-convention surveys revealed their members were afraid to walk the streets amid the open drug use, threatening behavior and mental illness that are common on the streets."

San Francisco's biggest industry is tourism. It brings in $9 billion a year, creates 80,000 jobs, and generates more than $725 million in local taxes.

Conventions represent about $1.7 billion of the industry.

"We all know there is a problem, and now, we need to work toward a solution," Carroll said.

my white folks picked cotton too, and corn and peas and anything else that had to be picked. The majority of people, black, white or brown, who lived in the rural areas in that time had to. It was just a fact of life.

Country band claims Facebook denied ad request for patriotic song

A country group is speaking out against Facebook, after the social media platform did not permit the band to promote its song “I Stand for the Flag” on the social media site, a new report says.

The Wes Cook Band released a video for the song on Tuesday and submitted a request using Facebook’s paid promotion tools to promote the content. Although it was initially approved, Facebook then declined the request due to the video’s “political content,” Fox News reports.

In response, the band has argued that “patriotism is not political” and pointed to song lyrics that say, “You ain’t gotta pick a side, you can love your fellow man and still have pride.”
