Long-awaited DOJ report on Uvalde mass shooting to be released Thursday
Victims' families said they hoped the findings would hold people accountable for law enforcement's bungled response to a gunman at Robb Elementary School in Texas.
A Justice Department investigation into how hundreds of law enforcement officers failed to stop a gunman who walked into an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, and remained inside for more than an hour, killing 19 children and two teachers, was set to be released Thursday.
But parents who have been frustrated by shifting stories and a lack of transparency about the response at Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022, were skeptical that the report would provide answers and the accountability they have sought for nearly two years.
Parents, teachers and victims’ families were bracing for its release as officials warned it could retraumatize a community left bereft by the tragedy.
