Hollywood is gearing up to give Marc Rich, the accused fraudster who spent nearly 18 years as a fugitive from justice until President Bill Clinton pardoned him hours before he left office, a glamorous biopic treatment starring Matt Damon.

UK anti-terror police join ‘unknown substance’ probe
AMESBURY, England (AP) — British counterterrorism police were investigating Wednesday after two people were left in critical condition, exposed to an unknown substance a few miles from where a former Russian spy and his daughter were poisoned with a nerve agent.
The Wiltshire Police force declared a "major incident" after a man and a woman in their 40s were hospitalized after being found unconscious Saturday at a residential building in Amesbury, eight miles (13 kilometers) from Salisbury, where Sergei and Yulia Skripal were poisoned on March 4.

Colin Kaepernick receives civil rights award from National Education Association
Colin Kaepernick was among a dozen honorees who received a human and civil rights award from the National Education Association.
Kaepernick was given the NEA's President's Award to recognize his work "to fight racial oppression through education and social justice activism" through the Know Your Rights Camp, a campaign that is fully funded by the footballer.
The youth camp aims "to raise awareness on higher education, self empowerment, and instruction to properly interact with law enforcement in various scenarios," according to its website.

The U.S. is likely to overtake Russia to become the world’s largest oil producer by 2023, accounting for most of the global growth in petroleum supplies, a top industry monitor said Monday.
U.S. crude production is expected to reach a record of 12.1 million barrels a day in 2023, up from 10.6 million a day this year, said the International Energy Agency, which advises governments and corporations on industry trends. American oil output will surge past Russia, currently the world’s largest crude producer at roughly 11 million barrels a day.

Liberal groups focus on Supreme Court candidate’s religious beliefs as opposition campaigns mount
As the battle over the Supreme Court vacancy continues to heat up, liberal advocacy groups and some Democrats are homing in on federal appeals court Judge Amy Coney Barrett and raising concerns about her ability to balance her role as a justice with her Catholic faith.
A number of liberal groups launched campaigns on Twitter on Monday in opposition to Barrett, warning that, if nominated and confirmed to the Supreme Court, she would jeopardize Roe v. Wade and the Affordable Care Act.
But some of the groups also charged that Barrett will put her religious views over her role as a justice and suggested that, because of she is a devout Catholic, Barrett should not hear cases involving abortion or same-sex marriage.

Other than the barbecue and a few beers, and maybe some fireworks, why do we celebrate on the fourth day of July?
As a practical matter, the Declaration of Independence was merely a press release announcing the dubious claim of thirteen British colonies to be independent of Great Britain. It would take five years of war to establish that precarious fact.
The Declaration’s greater importance was as a statement on what made political authority legitimate and what are the proper ends of government. It grounded political rule in the sovereignty of the people. And that clear and true statement is what we rightly celebrate today.
"If the American Revolution had produced nothing but the Declaration of Independence," wrote the great historian Samuel Eliot Morrison, "it would have been worthwhile."
