The military juntas that rose to power in Mali, Guiana and Burkina Faso have bucked widespread international pressure and hard economic sanctions by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), that went as far as to threaten military action.

One Dead After Two Masked ISIS Terrorists Attack Roman Catholic church in Istanbul During Sunday Mass (VIDEO)

Two armed and masked ISIS terrorists attacked a Roman Catholic church in Istanbul during Sunday Mass on January 28.
One person was killed in the attack, which was captured on security camera footage.
The victim’s identity has not been released, but local reports say that his initials are C.T. and he was 52 years old.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that the armed assailants attacked the Santa Maria Church in the Sariyer district at 11:40 a.m.
Meydan Medy, the official Turkish media organ of ISIS, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Yerlikaya told reporters that authorities had raided more than 30 locations across Istanbul and detained 47 people.
Alarabiya News reports that two people have been arrested for the attack and are believed to be linked to ISIS. They were captured at one of the last raids.
“Both of the suspects are foreign nationals. One of them is from Tajikistan and the other is Russian, and we evaluated them to be with Islamic State,” Yerlikaya said.
The Alarabiya report noted, “Yerlikaya said Turkish authorities had detained 2,086 people suspected of ties to ISIS during 1,046 operations since June 2023, and that 529 people had been arrested.”

A massive NATO military exercises slated to run all the way through the end of May has kicked off. Exercise Steadfast Defender 24 is being hailed as the largest NATO exercises since the Cold War. Some 90,000 troops from all 31 members states will take part.
Also, Sweden - which is on the cusp of formally entering the alliance after Turkish parliament belatedly signed off - is expected to sent troops and equipment. "The Alliance will demonstrate its ability to reinforce the Euro-Atlantic area via trans-Atlantic movement of forces from North America," a NATO statement said.
The focus of the exercises is to improve readiness for deploying NATO assets on a rapid and large scale from North America and other parts in order to defend Europe from an invasion.
Russian media has denounced the planned drills as essentially a rehearsal of war against the Russian state.

A study by the Canadian Paediatric Society is recommending parents allow their children to engage in “outdoor risky play” as a tool for healthy development, an issue that has become increasingly more important in the aftermath of years lost as a result of pandemic lockdowns.
“Risky play helps facilitate children’s exposure to fear-provoking situations, providing them with opportunities to experiment with uncertainty, associated physiological arousal, and coping strategies, which can significantly reduce children’s risk for elevated anxiety,” reads the study.
The group defines risky play as “thrilling and exciting forms of free play that involve uncertainty of outcome and a possibility of physical injury.”
“Based on evidence gathered over the last 15 years, primarily in children 1 to 13 years of age, risky play is often further categorized into various play types,” reads the study.

A recent study from the Montreal Economic Institute is questioning whether or not it’s fair to tax Canadians more because they are forced to work two jobs just to make ends meet.
The MEI is a non-profit research think tank that offers independent advice on public policy, aiming to create debate around reforms on established principles of market economics.
In a study published earlier this month, the institute addressed the issue of Canadians’ spending power being reduced by 16% since 2020, due to high inflation and weak wage gains.
In addition to lower spending power, the high cost of rent and mortgages has skyrocketed in recent years, due to the Bank of Canada’s interest rates, which are currently at a 22-year high.
Despite the multitude of issues presently facing the average Canadian, the system is still structured so that the more income a person earns, the higher his or her tax rate will be.
“It is simply indecent to ask someone who has to work two jobs to make ends meet to pay taxes of 20 per cent or more on their second salary,” said Jason Dean, associate researcher at the institute and co-author of the study. “By restarting the tax meter at zero for a second job, the taxman would help provide some breathing room for workers who are less well-off.” Continue…

Shortages of over 1,800 medications are driving Canadians into the United States to seek over 1800 medications are on the drug shortage list in Canada, causing some Canadians to have to travel across the US border to access their essential drugs.
Angelle Ritchie, 50, is a musician living in Oshawa, Ont. She’s been living with Crohn’s Ileitis, a form of inflammatory bowel disease, since she was 18 and has had several bowel resections resulting in short bowel syndrome.
Ritchie’s condition makes her dependent on drugs like Cholestyramine, or Questran, a drug that reduces bile acid and is used to treat high cholesterol, and Lomotil, which is often used as an antidiarrheal, to function in day-to-day life.
“Without my medications, I end up in the hospital. They have to admit me, and I’m pretty much down for the count until I get those meds,” she said.
Due to a shortage of powdered Questran, Ritchie had to travel to Niagara Falls, N.Y. to access the bile acid sequestrant critical to maintaining her health.
According to Ritchie, the first time most people experience a drug shortage is when they go to the pharmacy and are told there are none available.
“What (the pharmacists) usually do is recommend that you start calling. And that’s what I was doing on my lunch breaks when the first shortage started. I would take a list, go down the list, call, and check to see if they had any,” she said. Continue…

Japan’s Moon lander resumed operations on Sunday some five days after it was reported to be in trouble on the lunar surface due to a lack of power.
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said it re-established contact with the lander indicating that the glitch had been fixed.
“Communication with SLIM was successfully established last night, and operations resumed!,” JAXA said on X, formerly Twitter.
” Science observations were immediately started with the MBC, and we obtained first light for the 10-band observation. This figure shows the “toy poodle” observed in the multi-band observation,” it said, referring to the lander’s multiband spectroscopic camera.
The agency also posted on X an image shot by the probe of “toy poodle”, a rock observed near the lander.
The lander could not could not generate power when it landed on 20 January as the solar cells pointed away from the Sun.
As Breitbart News reported, the touchdown made Japan only the fifth nation to achieve a soft lunar landing, after the United States, the Soviet Union, China and India, however it did not come without setbacks.
In the hours after the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) touched down, JAXA first notified it could not confirm that the lightweight craft’s solar batteries were generating power due to difficulties.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) – Poland protested Sunday a mistake in a social media post by the head of the European Commission that wrongly suggested the World War II Auschwitz death camp was Polish.
That post by Ursula von der Leyen on X, formerly Twitter, was later corrected to say that Auschwitz was a Nazi German extermination camp.
In the post, von der Leyen and European Union commissioners pay tribute to victims of the Holocaust to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Saturday. They write and say the names of some of the victims. Added text states their birth and death place and date. In the original post, the Auschwitz camp was described only as “Poland.”
Phone and text messages left Sunday with Christian Wigand, EU Commission spokesman, were not immediately returned.
Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski wrote on X that “When referring to the Nazi extermination camp in Auschwitz, it should be noted that it was established under German occupation.”

There are currently 880,000 people serving in Ukraine’s armed forces, according to President Vladimir Zelensky, who insisted that Kiev wants to mobilize even more troops, primarily males who left the country after the start of the conflict with Russia.
Just last month, Zelensky claimed that Kiev’s ground forces numbered over 600,000 service personnel, while in February 2022, when Russia launched its offensive, the Ukrainian army officially had only about 260,000 servicemen.
In an interview with the German news channel ARD news broadcast on Monday, the Ukrainian leader stated that Kiev now has “a million-strong army,” adding that there are also over 30 million people who are working in the country right now, one million of whom are employed in the defense and security sectors.
At the same time, Zelensky noted that between 6.5 million and 7.5 million people had left Ukraine since the start of the conflict and stated that Kiev would like to repatriate citizens who are eligible for military service.

Footage allegedly shot at the scene captured several bodies on the ground and the burning debris of a car that had been destroyed in the attack.
According to the republic’s Joint Center for Control and Coordination, eight missiles from a multiple rocket launch system were fired at Kalininsky District at around 3pm local time.
Donetsk, which is located close to Russia’s front line, has frequently been a target of Ukrainian strikes amid the conflict between Moscow and Kiev. But, earlier this month, the city of some 600,000 came under one of the worst attacks when 25 civilians were killed and 20 others wounded during a weekend bombardment of a busy market.
Moscow described the strike as “a barbaric terrorist act” carried out by Ukraine with support from the West, as it relied on weapons supplied by the US and its allies. Kiev’s actions have once again proven that the goal of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine must be achieved, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.
