Russian plane carrying 65 Ukrainian PoWs has crashed, Moscow says
A Russian military transport plane has crashed in the border region of Belgorod, according to Russia’s defence ministry.
The ministry said the aircraft was carrying 65 Ukrainian PoWs who were to be swapped. The ministry added that onboard the Ilyushin Il-76 were also six crew and three other people.
The Belgorod regional governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said all 74 people onboard had died.
Ukraine did not immediately comment on the incident.
The Ukrainskaya Pravda newspaper, citing sources, initially said Kyiv’s armed forces shot down the plane but later withdrew the report.
The Guardian could not immediately verify details of who was onboard.

The Soviet-designed Ilyushin Il-76 is a military transport aircraft designed to airlift troops, cargo, military equipment and weapons.
Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of the Duma, said the plane had been “shot down” by Kyiv and blamed western missiles.
“They shot their own soldiers in the air. Their own,” Volodin told lawmakers in a plenary session. “Our pilots, who were carrying out a humanitarian mission, were shot down.”
Andrei Kartapolov, a senior lawmaker in Russia’s parliament and a retired general, said during a parliamentary session that the plane had been shot down by three missiles.
He did not reveal the source of his information. Kartapalov added that investigations would show whether the missiles were western-supplied Patriots or Iris-Ts.
Kartapalov claimed Russia and Ukraine were to exchange 192 prisoners each on Wednesday before the plane crash.
This month, the two countries announced the largest exchange of prisoners since the start of the war, involving the return of more than 200 soldiers from each side in a deal mediated by the United Arab Emirates.
The Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, is a vital stop on Russian supply lines. It has come under extensive shelling and drone attacks for months including a missile strike on the region’s capital in December that killed 25 people.

Atlanta Pole Dancing Studio Launches Kids’ Classes for Ages 4 and Up
An Atlanta pole dancing studio has come under fire after launching a “Mommy and Me” class featuring children as young as four years old participating on the poles.
Pink Poles Studio, which boasts over 90,000 Instagram followers, announced kids’ classes as well as the Mommy and Me workshops for February in a viral video showing young children swinging on the poles.
According to the January 7 post, the studio has finally been able to announce the “exciting news” after three years of anticipation.
“We are here to break stigmas and set the bar. Remember that—it’s here to stay,” the video’s caption reads. “Kids class begin 2/3 12pm… The next mommy and me workshop is 2/24, 12pm… Ages 4 and up are welcome to attend.”
