Got this in super late on the Kwajalein thread end of bread; so slidey over here. Old story, but with context in light of recent events.

Anon did some digging on the rad NOTAM and reviewed sat photos and such. I don't think the NOTAM was for nuclear fallout or a containment breach, but rather the super high powered space radar at the western end of the island. It's one of the most powerful in the world and shines towards and above the US area of the northern hemisphere and space.

They catalog the objects moving about in space.

I suspect the super powerful radar got turned up to super duper powerful and the NOTAM was to keep pilots from flying across that beam and getting fried at close range. It's essentially a gigantic microwave and older tests using ships and aircraft exposed the extreme risks to life and equipment getting too close. In some cases hundreds of miles is too close.
