If Trump was not convicted of a heinous crime against E. Jean Carroll then regardless whether he acted on behalf of the reputation of the POTUS, government, or on his own character, he is legally justified to defend whatever reputation that he is associated with. On the contrary, if he wasn't convicted of the crime then E. Jean Carroll had actually defamed him with false allegations, thereby hurting his standing as a POTUS, a government employee, and his own person and brand. These are facts.
