North Korea Sends Senior Officials to Cuba Before Pompeo Meeting
North Korea’s state media confirmed that communist dictator Kim Jong-un sent a high-ranking delegation to Havana, Cuba, Tuesday for their first meeting with figurehead President Miguel Díaz-Canel since he assumed the title, and to discuss affairs of mutual interest with the actual leader of the island, dictator Raúl Castro.
While Castro handed the “president” title to Díaz-Canel, he remains the head of the Communist Party of Cuba, a position that outranks that of president.
Cuba is one of North Korea’s closest allies and has regularly defended the rogue regime in international venues such as the United Nations. The North Korean delegation’s visit will precede a scheduled dialogue between North Korean officials and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Pyongyang on Thursday.
North Korea and Cuba share several agreements related to intelligence sharing and economic ties, though Cuba – like all countries – is legally bound by United Nations sanctions not to conduct complete free business with North Korea.

The former leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) blasted the unelected Brussels boss Jean-Claude Juncker at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday. Mr Juncker has demanded a “fully-fledged Defence Union” by 2025 and the bloc’s foreign minister revealed they were working at “full speed” to create a unified “defence force” on a “continental scale” after the Brexit vote.
“Just a quick look ahead of next week. [U.S. President Donald J.] Trump will be at that NATO summit,” Mr Farage blasted.
“You appear to be hell-bent on pushing for your European army, hell-bent for a foreign policy without veto, and hell-bent to be on a direct collision course with President Trump and with NATO.
“You can’t have a European army and NATO existing side-by-side. And maybe your next big challenge is European citizens will need to work out who do they best feel protected by.
“The European army or America and NATO? I think I know what the decision of the people will be. Next week we may well find out.”
