American F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes Off South Korea

A US F-16 fighter jet has crashed in waters off South Korea's west coast on Wednesday morning local time, according to initial reporting by Yonhap news agency. The pilot is reported to have ejected from the aircraft and was promptly rescued, after descending to the ocean.

"The fighter jet crashed into the water and the rescued pilot is safe," Yonhap reports of the incident which occurred near Gunsan, in North Jeolla province.

Though details have been scant, US Forces Korea have confirmed the crash. There doesn't appear to have been any casualties as a result of the accident.

The Korean peninsula has witnessed a significant rise in tensions especially going back to last summer, when the US parked a nuclear submarine in a South Korean port for the first time since the 1980s.

From there, Pyongyang has ramped up its ballistic missile tests and military drills, which have been met with a rise in joint US-South Korean drills. However, it is as yet unclear whether this fresh jet crash came within the context of joint exercises.

North Korea has meanwhile kicked off this week with a series of launches, including the latest on Wednesday:

North Korea said Wednesday it conducted a test-firing of long-range cruise missiles with an aim to sharpen its counterattack and strategic strike capabilities, in its latest display of weapons threatening South Korea and Japan.

The report by North Korean state media came a day after South Korea’s military detected the North firing multiple cruise missiles into waters off its western coast, the third launch of such weapons this month. The event extended a provocative streak in weapons testing as North Korea continues to raise pressure on the United States and its Asian allies amid a prolonged freeze in diplomacy.

EU opposes Ukraine truce – Borrell

The bloc’s chief diplomat called for more weapons for Kiev and more sanctions on Moscow

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has rejected the notion of peace talks and a ceasefire in Ukraine, instead demanding that the bloc’s member states cough up “whatever it takes” for Kiev to defeat Moscow.

In an op-ed for France’s L’Obs magazine on Tuesday, Borrell urged EU leaders to reject “the temptations of conciliation” with Russia. “These ideas were wrong in 2022, and they remain wrong today,” he wrote, arguing that “we must not let them shape our policy towards Ukraine.”

It is unclear which calls for peace Borrell was referring to. In the EU, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has persistently called for a negotiated settlement, arguing that Kiev’s forces cannot win a military victory against their Russian opponents, and that the EU’s sanctions on Moscow hurt EU economies more than they hurt Russia’s.

Borrell, on the other hand, claimed that sanctions have “weakened Russia’s war machine,” despite admitting in a speech one day earlier that they have largely failed to achieve their goals.

“Instead of seeking compromise, we should remember the lessons we have learned since 2022 and redouble our efforts,” Borrell continued.

“We must shift the paradigm from supporting Ukraine for ‘as long as it takes’ to committing to doing ‘whatever it takes’ for Ukraine to win,” he declared, calling for Ukraine to be given “long range missiles and other advanced weapons systems,” including more air-defense batteries.

Ukraine’s demand for arms and ammunition can only be met if there is “a renaissance of the European defense industry,” Borrell wrote.

While Borrell boasted that defense spending across the EU has risen by 40% since 2014, this increase has not been matched by a corresponding increase in arms production. EU member states committed last March to the joint supply of a million artillery shells to Ukraine by March 2024, for example, but only a third of that number has been delivered, and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told reporters in November that “the one million target will not be reached.”

Defense contractors across Europe are wary of increasing production without being offered iron-clad contracts from governments, Politico reported last summer. Without such contracts, these firms would be risking a loss if demand for their weapons were to fall in the coming years.

From the outset of the conflict in Ukraine, Borrell has consistently portrayed Russia as the party that was uninterested in peace. Even in March 2022, as Russia offered Ukraine peace terms which former Ukrainian officials now concede were generous, the EU diplomat claimed that Moscow “doesn’t want to sit and negotiate anything: what it wants is to occupy the ground.”

Moscow insists that it has not ruled out a negotiated end to the conflict, but maintains that peace will only be reached when the goals of its military operation in Ukraine are achieved, either by military or diplomatic means.

Nuremberg for Israel: Criminals in Charge of the State of Israel

It is already abundantly clear that Israel is adamant to ignore the demands of the ICJ and carry through with its genocide until its horrific end. Instead of reversing course, key forces in Israel celebrate their drive for genocide against the Palestinians and their objective of an Israeli colonization of Gaza. See this.

Consequently, Israel will not put to justice anyone involved in its genocide.

We must remember, that the genocide is carried out by the criminal orders and/or criminal incitement by top Israeli leaders like president Herzog, the prime minister Netanyahu, the defense minister Galant, the security minister Ben-Gvir, foreign minister Katz, and finance minister Smotrich. Benny Gantz is probably also guilty as part of this gang.

Guilty is the Israeli military top and lots and lots of people all the way down to soldiers committing the acts. We also have Israeli media, religious persons, analysts, legal experts, and diplomats involved.

Like Germany 1945, we confront a state and society infested with genocidal ideology, its meticulous planning, and its bloody execution. And the trials afterwards proved no remorse among the perpetrators.

Haaretz today 29 January 2024, lists nearly all the above-named persons as involved in genocide or incitement to genocide. Haaretz further writes that the ICJ ruling should by adhered to by Israel as a “yellow card” for Israel, including its leaders. But Haaretz is deluded in believing any Israeli institution will take action against the genocide continuing, or any action against any individuals leading or inciting it.

Somebody else must bring justice.

Like Germany 1945, there is no chance that the country itself will stop and carry out justice once its bloody genocide fails in an abyss of self-destruction. Like the trial in Nüremberg in Germany 1945, the outside World will have to organize and carry through the trial for the genocide carried out by Israel in coordination with the USA. An international trial, in which US President Biden, Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, and Lloyd Austin will stand accused as well. And like the World saw at Nüremberg in 1945, there is no chance that the defendants will show any remorse, not even in the minute when their sentence was carried out.
