Why will flags be at half-staff in Florida on Thursday?

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has directed the State of Florida flag to be flown at half-staff at various locations on Thursday in honor of Sergeant David Dixon.
Flags will be flown at half-staff at the Zephyrhills Police Department and the City Hall of Zephyrhills from sunrise to sunset on Feb. 1.
Sgt. Dixon passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, after battling cancer.
Throughout his career, Dixon served his community in many different capacities. Over the past 15 years, he served at the Zephyrhills Police Department, working to make the community a safe place.
