It was British regulars. Colonel William Thorntons first brigade, comprising of the 1/4th, 1/21rst and the 1/44 A second brigade commanded by Colonel Arthur Brooke and a third brigade held in reserve. There may have been Canadians in those units but they were not "Canadian". The attack was launched out of Canada but it was British who put the torch to the WH.
