WASHINGTON: "A new report labels social media as one of the main drivers of shootings in D.C. in the last few years, and most D.C. police officers interviewed for this report agreed on what was determined the main drivers of gun violence in D.C. The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform analyzed gun violence in D.C. including shootings and homicides in the district in the last few years.
According to the Report, “There is a deadly mix of group/crew/gang members making music videos taunting or disrespecting their rivals that are posted on social media, and those videos spark or further inflame neighborhood conflicts that escalate into shootings. And while the music videos were identified as the primary issue, other comments and pictures posted to social media by group members also lead to shootings.”
Experts say the other leading causes of shootings in D.C. in the last few years were identified as drug sales and use, robberies, and personal disputes."
