About Ethics Commission
The Ethics Commission is independent body within the Bar Association and performs its activities in accordance with the “Law of Georgia on Lawyers” and on the basis of the principles of professional ethics.
The Ethics Commission reviews the received information about a lawyer, studies its validity and decides on the issue of disciplinary liability of the lawyer.
The Ethics Commission is composed of 15 members, of which at least 12 are lawyers, and 3 members are from different professional circles of society in order to improve the effectiveness and public trust of the Ethics Commission. An Ethics Commission member must be a person of 30 years of age with at least 5 years of professional experience. Non-lawyer member of the Ethics Commission must have a high reputation in the society and be prominent professional of his/her particular field.
Members of the Ethics Commission are elected by the General Assembly of the Bar Association for a four-year term. Those candidates who receive more votes than other candidates are considered to be members of the Ethics Commission. The Ethics Commission elects its Chairperson by a secret ballot for a two-year term by a majority vote of its members. The current Ethics Commission is the fourth convocation elected by the General Assembly in December 2017.
