"Senators in both parties have finalized a deal on stricter border and immigration policies that is headed toward an uncertain floor vote in the coming days.

The $118 billion agreement, which was released Sunday afternoon and negotiated for months, would tighten the standard for migrants to receive asylum, automatically shut down the southern border to illegal crossings if migrant encounters hit certain daily benchmarks and send billions of dollars to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan as well as the border."

"OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Before he became a leading voice for conservative causes on Capitol Hill, U.S. Senator James Lankford spent more than a decade as the director of youth programming at the Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center, a sprawling campground about 80 miles south of Oklahoma City that attracts more than 50,000 campers in grades six through 12 each year.

The Republican lawmaker's tenure at the camp is a prominent feature of his political profile, noted in the first paragraph of his official Senate biography. That experience is also coming under renewed scrutiny as the Southern Baptist Convention, which is affiliated with the group that owns the camp, faces a reckoning over its handling of sexual abuse cases.

In 2009, while Lankford worked at the camp, the family of a 13-year-old girl sued a 15-year-old boy who was alleged to have had sex with her at the camp. Lankford, who was not in Congress at the time, is not alleged to have had any direct knowledge of the alleged assault, has not been accused of any wrongdoing and was not a defendant in the lawsuit, which was settled for an undisclosed amount before it was scheduled to go to trial.

But in a 2010 deposition in the case, given a week after he was elected to his first term in the U.S. House, Lankford testified that he believed a 13-year-old could consent to sex."

ABLINDguy apparently raped a kiddo at Falls Creek…this was on Lankford's watch…

https://kfor.com/news/oklahoma-man-who-pleaded-guilty-to-raping-13-year-old-at-falls-creek-sentenced-to-15-years-probation/

"OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma man who pleaded guilty to brutally raping a 13-year-old girl at a church camp was sentenced to 15 years probation.

In the summer of 2016, a 13-year-old girl said she was raped by Benjamin Lawrence Petty, 36, while she was at Falls Creek.

Petty was reportedly a cook at the church camp.

Court documents show that the victim says that Petty told her he was going to show her how to perform tricks on a device he brought to the camp when he suddenly pulled her into his cabin.

“Petty closed the door to his bedroom, tied [victim’s] hands behind her back, pulled down her jeans, pushed her face down on his bed, and violently raped and sodomized her,” the document states.

He was later arrested and charged with forcible sodomy, first-degree rape, and rape by instrumentation.

Last week, Petty, of Spencer, pleaded guilty to the three felonies as part of a plea deal, NewsOK reports.

Court records show Petty received three 15-year suspended sentences in exchange for his guilty plea, all of which will run concurrently.

Murray County Assistant District Attorney David Pyle, who negotiated the guilty plea deal, told NewsOK thatPetty is “legally blind” which was a major factor in his decision not to insist on prison time.

“The big thing is Mr. Petty is legally blind and the parents (of the victim) live out of state and this little girl lives out of state and didn’t want to make all the travels back and forth,” Pyle said. “The plea was negotiated with their permission.”

Pyle also said that Petty was legally blind at the time of the rape.

Last year, the girl’s family filed a civil lawsuit against the church that brought her to the camp from Terrell, Texas, along with County Estates Baptist Church in Midwest City, which brought Petty to the camp, and Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

The victim’s family says all of the organizations failed to perform background checks, which may have protected the teen.

“Minimal effort on the part of the Defendants- before and/or during the camp- would have revealed that Petty was not an appropriate adult candidate to bring to , or remain at, the camp. In fact, Petty was a convicted criminal and it was readily apparent that he was involved in a lifestyle contrary and repugnant to the values espoused by the BGCO, Country Estates, Terrell and Falls Creek,” the lawsuit alleges.

The Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma released the following statement to News 4:

“Although we have no association with Mr. Petty, as he was not an employee or volunteer of Falls Creek, we absolutely abhor his behavior toward the victim in this case. We are continuing to pray for the victim and family, as well as everyone impacted by this.”

"The Oklahoma Baptists-affiliated Falls Creek youth camp is experiencing some of the fallout from a historic sexual abuse report on the Southern Baptist Convention.

Criticism about the youth camp's safety regulations came this week from two Oklahoma pastors — one with current ties to the Southern Baptist denomination and one who grew up attending Southern Baptist churches. Leaders with Oklahoma Baptists have refuted critics' assertions about the camp, without going into specifics.

The Rev. Lori Walke, senior pastor of Mayflower Congregational Church-United Church of Christ, initially took to Twitter to voice her concerns about the popular youth encampment near Davis. The Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center, owned and operated by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (informally known as Oklahoma Baptists), has been hosting youth camps during the summer months for more than 100 years.

In her Twitter thread, Walke explained that she grew up Southern Baptist and attended Falls Creek youth camp and the Baptist-run Camp Nunny Cha-Ha.

However, she had serious concerns about the Falls Creek camp after reading a scathing independent report aboutSouthern Baptist leaders' mishandling and covering up sexual abuse allegations and vilifying victims in cases that spanned at least two decades. The report by Guidepost Solutions was released on Sunday.

Stop sending young people to Falls Creek Youth Camp in Oklahoma. Or any other camps/programs run by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma," Walke tweeted.

She was most concerned that Baptist encampment owner-operators assume little responsibility for what happens at the camp (Lankford) and leave it up to visiting churches to conduct background checks before attending camp. According to the Falls Creek 2021 Cabin Owners Handbook, “Private Caretakers must make sure Cabin Owners have secured background checks on all third-party contractors.”

"When abuse happens, Falls Creek points its finger back at the local church, despite decades of experience regarding background check compliance by local churches,"Walke said in her Twitter thread. "FC has the resources, personnel, & power to do this. It actively chooses not to do so. This is abdication of FC's moral obligation to protect the young people in its care. Stop sending young people to Falls Creek."

Oklahoma Baptist executive director says Falls Creek camp is safe

Friday, the Rev. Todd Fisher, Oklahoma Baptists' executive director-treasurer, refuted her accusations.

“In recent years, Falls Creek has made even more significant strides in further enhancing the safety protocols that were already in place, including mandatory background checks for anyone 18 and older participating in any way at camp," Fisher said in a statement.
