OG Anon figured out a long time ago, notables are Baker controlled opinions.

Back in the day, It took a nomination and a second from anons to make the notable list. That, too, was abused by shills, so it wasn't a shill-proofed system, either. Eventually, anons stopped regularly nominating and seconding and the lists were created by Bakers and/or note takers.

AFAIAC, notables are just noise - nice when they work, but not all that important. I wouldn't care if the notable practice went away, and the Globals become just BO or BV announcements.

Notables were supposed to help anons figure out the important things discussed in previous breads, both as an index, and as a way to limit duplicate crumbs on the same topic.

Again, never exactly worked as intended. Too many important things (due to differing opinions of what, exactly, fits the definition of "important") were skipped and too many shill bakers just put in their own crap.

So, a well-intentioned idea that had to have good people implementing it to come anywhere close to its initial vision. With the advent of shill bakers, implementation suffered.
