No appellate prior to that date would make the SC do more work, and perhaps after the civil war some of that would make sense especially in an expanding nation. There may be a point to stacking the court perhaps 9 is not enough in this day and age. Also the specific and limited jurisdiction is interesting. But it also still means that every decision post that date would need to be called into question. Including all constitutional amendments and laws passed. But if you only have to take shit back 120 years that is not the worst situation.

Now some ideas did not exist at the time and perhaps that again is a discussion that needs to be had but currently every court decision has no basis of trust. That is what the prosecution of Trump is showing people that is the lesson. Think about how many short cuts they are trying to do and how they are trying to only give him certain ways he can defend himself. Its showing what a sham it is even for someone at his level.
