Are We on The Doorstep of Another Civil War?

Thanks to Hollywood, most Americans believe that rebellions can be started and won by small ragtag groups of patriots, freedom fighters, insurrectionists, or everyday common folk. All you need are pistols, assault weapons, bows and arrows, and maybe a few Molotov cocktails. Blow up the Death Star, and the problem is solved.

But that is not how it usually works. Revolutions require armaments, soldiers, money, something worth fighting for, and popular support. Unless lives are at stake, few people are angry or committed enough to leave jobs or families to risk going to jail or dying needlessly.

The ‘Border Bill’ was to have funded all sorts of things Americans don’t want

You know, if we simply built the wall, described in the bill as a “steel bollard pedestrian barrier built at least 18 to 30 feet in effective height and augmented with anti-climb and anti-dig features,” and prohibited entry into the country of all except properly vetted and visaed applicants, we could save $45 to $50 billion right off the top. Just a suggestion to conservatives seeking to resurrect this bill outright. Plus, we wouldn’t need to build permanent processing and detention facilities on our southern border.

Is The Entire Crowdstrike House of Cards About To Collapse?

Even As Entire Governments Attempt Furious Damage Control Over Tucker Carlson's Forthcoming Interview With Putin, Recall That Carlson Still Has The Julian Assange Interview In His Back Pocket…

Tucker interviewed Julian Assange… and held off releasing it. Tucker turns around and flies to Russia to interview Putin… and doesn't tell anyone he is going. Why? Mix in that really strange Kevin Spacey interview.

With Evergrande’s liquidation, is China’s Potemkin economy nearing its end?

Last week, a court in Hong Kong ordered that Evergrande, China’s massive property developer, must be liquidated. Real estate accounts for about one-quarter of China’s GDP, and Evergrande isn’t the only troubled part of the Chinese real estate sector. While I’d always like to see China constrained, not only is a collapsing China dangerous, but the real estate collapse also reminds us of what’s happening domestically.

Business Insider reported on Evergrande’s liquidation, which has long been expected and which will be carried out in an orderly fashion. The assets are valued at $245 billion (which I suspect is inflated), while the company’s debts are $300 billion. As with an American bankruptcy, secured creditors get first dibs on any money from the liquidation, with the people carrying out the liquidation then getting their fees. The dregs will be for unsecured creditors and shareholders. Offshore investors will be lucky to see pennies on the dollar.

What’s more interesting about the report by Huileng Tan is what’s going on with the rest of China’s real estate market. That’s because Evergrande isn’t the only company hurting

‘Consumers Are Weary’: McDonald’s Shares Tumble After Executives Acknowledge Price Inflation

McDonald’s executives have finally acknowledged that their $18 Big Mac meals and other inflated prices are putting off lower-income customers.

“We certainly know consumers are more wary or weary of pricing,” Chief Financial Officer Ian Borden told investors during a Monday earnings call.

A Big Mac burger, a medium beverage, and a medium fry meal now costs $18 in some locations, up $10 from 2018 when former President Donald Trump was in office, Breitbart News reported in November 2023.
