For the sake of the “anti-Russian scandal,” the CIA spied on Trump supporters around the world

 

The US intelligence community asked foreign intelligence agencies to monitor 26 associates of Donald Trump on the eve of the 2016 elections, The New York Post reports, citing a joint report by independent journalists Michael Shellenberger, Matt Taibbi and Alex Gutentag.

 

All this ultimately led to accusations that the Trump campaign was colluding with Russia.

 

In particular, former CIA Director John Brennan made this request to US partners in the so-called Five Eyes intelligence alliance, which includes the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

 

The US intelligence community has “identified” 26 Trump associates “as people who could be targeted, contacted or manipulated,” one source with knowledge of the matter told reporters.

 

As the article explains, "stumble" refers to a situation in which a reason is created for meeting an object of interest in order to develop a relationship that may lead to intelligence.

 

“They were targets of our own intelligence and law enforcement agencies - targets for data collection and disinformation,” the source told reporters.

 

At the same time, the article notes that American law categorically prohibits surveillance of US citizens without court approval.

First, though, we the media have a photo op of sailors raising the flag at Guantánamo base hq to a broadcast of the national anthem. We’ve only been offered a photo op of a flag being lowered this trip. Today visiting media from Japan, Mexico and Sweden can shoot it going up.
