House Delays Vote On Surveillance Reform Just Hours After Lawmakers Warn Of ‘National Security Threat’

The House of Representatives delayed a vote on reforming a controversial surveillance tool shortly after lawmakers warned of a “national security threat,” according to Speaker Mike Johnson’s deputy chief for communications, Raj Shah.

The chairman of the House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on Wednesday published a statement requesting President Joe Biden declassify information regarding an unspecified “serious national security threat.” Congress had been considering a compromise bill to reform Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act(FISA), but the process has been postponed.

“In order to allow Congress more time to reach consensus on how best to reform FISA and Section 702 while maintaining the integrity of our critical national security programs, the House will consider the reform and reauthorization bill at a later date,” Shah posted.

The committee “has made available to all members of Congress information concerning a serious national security threat,” Republican Rep. Mike Turner of Ohio Turner wrote in the statement. “I am requesting that President Biden declassify all information relating to this threat so that Congress, the Administration and our allies can openly discuss the actions necessary to respond to this threat.”

The bill under consideration would not require the government to get a warrant to surveil Americans but instead would impose strict restrictions on these warrantless searches. This has been a point of contention in the House as the Freedom Caucus on Tuesday demanded an amendment to require a warrant, according to The Hill.

The FBI abused Section 702 of FISA nearly 300,000 times between 2020 and early 2021, running 23,132 inquiries alone after Jan. 6., according to a court document.

“[Section] 702 is key to our ability to detect a foreign terrorist organization overseas directing an operative here to carry out an attack in our own backyard, and U.S.-person queries, in particular, may provide the critical link that allows us to identify the intended target or build out the network of attackers so we can stop them before they strike and kill Americans,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in December.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if this had something to do with the fact that FISA is up for review…Anytime you start talking about FISA reform, you know, the intel community has this way of bringing out the boogey man,” Republican Rep. Eli Crane of Arizona told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

REPORT: Obama Intel Chiefs Recruited Foreign Agents to Spy on Trump.

A report released on Tuesday revealed that under the Obama administration, the United States Intelligence Community (US IC) directed its foreign allies to spy on Donald Trump and his associates well before the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation in 2016 into alleged Trump campaign collusion with Russia.

The joint report by veteran journalists Michael Shellenberger, Matt Taibbi, and Alex Gutentag, citing sources close to a House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HSPCI) investigation, stated– the US IC requested that its “Five Eyes” allies — the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand — surveil Trump and his associates and share any information gathered. Obama’s CIA Director, John Brennan, identified 26 Trump associates for surveillance and manipulation, an assignment confirmed by a source within the US IC.

Individuals targeted by the US IC reportedly included Michael Flynn, former Defense Intelligence Agency head, and Carter Page, a Trump foreign policy advisor. In one instance, Trump aide George Papadopoulos was approached by Maltese professor Josef Mifsud, who House Democrats on the Intelligence Committee claimed was “Kremlin-linked.” In reality, Mifsud was “a professor who really worked for MI6,” according to one source.

This kind of intelligence gathering is illegal under U.S. law unless a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant is obtained. The bombshell report will likely increase concerns about U.S. intelligence interference in the 2024 election.

The uptick in Chinese nationals illegally crossing the southern border proves the record-breaking number of foreigners walking into our nation and being shipped by border agents to American cities with little to no vetting is no longer a crisis but a full-fledged invasion.

Border Patrol agents in San Diego alone recorded encounters with 269 Chinese nationals on Monday, Fox News’s Bill Melugin reports.

Since the 2024 fiscal year began, Customs and Border Protection clocked more than 20,000 Chinese nationals illegally crossing into the U.S. via the southern border. Some of them crossed with the help of the Chinese Communist Party-linked app TikTok.

Even then, CBP does not turn them away. Instead, busloads of Chinese nationals are dropped off in the heart of the U.S. and told to appear for an immigration court date that is often set years in advance.

America’s number one foreign enemy isn’t just sending spies through gaps in the abandoned border wall. It’s also actively fueling the death and destruction at the open southern border.

Communist China has long taken advantage of Biden’s lax policies to poison hundreds of thousands of Americans with one of the most potent, lucrative, and lethal drugs on the black market.

One gram of fentanyl alone, about the size of a pack of table sugar, can kill approximately 500 people. Yet, in 2023, CBP seized 27,000 pounds of fentanyl, nearly twice as much as they seized in 2022. Since Biden was elected, CBP has reported record-breaking fentanyl seizures nearly every month, marking an 800 percent jump since 2019.

Cartels do most of the fentanyl smuggling, but their operations are directly sustained by investors linked to the Chinese Communist Party, who fund thousands of illegal marijuana-growing and selling operations in Mexico and the U.S. They produce the precursor chemicals required to make fentanyl in Asia and then ship them to packaging facilities close to the southern American border.
