United Methodist Church reverend busted for dealing meth

A Connecticut pastor is charged with possessing rock and liquid crystal methamphetamine, which he allegedly intended to distribute.

Woodbury United Methodist Church Rev. Herbert Miller was pulled over Friday for driving with a suspended registration and failing to maintain insurance requirements, according to Connecticut State Police. Cops said the 63-year-old holy man was also in possession of a hypodermic needle loaded with meth.

Miller is accused of dealing drugs from his Woodbury home, which is next door to the church where he worked, according to Connecticut station WFSB.

State police reportedly got a tip something might be going on at Miller’s house when neighbors said they noticed him receiving lots of visitors at all hours of the day. One local found a meth pipe near Woodbury United Methodist, WFSB reported.

Miller allegedly provided meth in exchange for being allowed to watch gay couples having sex.

One neighbor called the charges against him “sad.” Another local told WFSB Miller’s arrest was “very disappointing to this town” and “hard to believe.”

Miller reportedly arrived at Woodbury United Methodist Church in May. The church didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about his current status. A Valentine’s Day mass is scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Heavy US and British Bombing Reported in Yemen’s Hodeidah Province

According to Al Mayadeen, the province was hit nine times on Wednesday

A series of US and British airstrikes were reported in Yemen’s western Red Sea province of Hodeidah on Wednesday as the US continues its heavy bombing campaign against the Houthis.

A correspondent for Al Mayadeen reported that Hodeidah was hit at least nine times throughout the day. Yemen’s Saba news agency reported that US and British strikes on Hodeidah continued into Wednesday evening, hitting several areas of the province.

So far, the US military has not announced the strikes, but US Central Command typically puts out press releases a few hours after they are finished, or sometimes they wait until the following day.

On Wednesday morning, CENTCOM announced that it launched a strike against Houthi-controlled Yemen a day earlier but didn’t specify where. The command claimed it hit a Houthis missile that was preparing to launch. A few hours later, the Houthis fired a missile into the Gulf of Aden, but CENTCOM said it did not hit any ships.

Since January 12, the US has launched around 30 rounds of missile strikes on Yemen. Some have been heavy bombings conducted with the UK that hit dozens of targets, while others have been unilateral US strikes against a single target.

According to the Houthis, the US and UK have conducted a total of 403 attacks on Yemen, including 203 airstrikes. The US has also been firing missiles from Navy warships in the Red Sea.

The Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, have shown no sign that they will back down in the face of the US military. The Yemeni group, which governs an area where 70-80% of the Yemeni population lives, has said the only way it would stop attacks on shipping in the Red Sea would be if Israel’s onslaught on Gaza comes to an end.

War on Gaza: Israeli soldiers storm Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis as Lebanon reels from Israeli strike

The hospital has been besieged for several days and Israel has demanded that patients evacuate while planning for a wider offensive on Rafah

The attack comes a day after the Israeli army said it tried to evacuate civilians from the hospital, but medics said patients were unable to safely flee and many displaced Palestinians remained there.

Footage from overnight shows patients being taken out of their rooms in hospital gurneys, some screaming in pain through the sound of distant gunshots.

Israel has laid siege to the hospital for a few days, claiming it was housing Hamas fighters. Similar claims were made about previously attacked hospitals, without any evidence of a significant military presence provided.

Medical staff at the hospital previously told Middle East Eye that at least three Palestinians were killed at the hospital's northern gate, as Israel forced them to leave the hospital at gunpoint.

Iran declares Antarctica its property in direct challenge to Biden, global treaty…

Iran’s Navy commander announced in a televised broadcast last fall that the regime owns Antarctica and will build a military operation in the South Pole.

“We have property rights in the South Pole. We have plan to raise our flag there and carry out military and scientific work,” Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said in late September, according to a translation by the Washington D.C.-based Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

Iran’s naval saber-rattling is drawing new attention in response to the Iranian-backed militias that murdered three U.S. soldiers in Jordan last month.

FDNY HQ, fire chiefs’ homes raided by FBI and NYC investigators in probe over $100K bribes to speed up inspections

FDNY HQ, fire chiefs’ homes raided by FBI and NYC investigators in probe over $100K bribes to speed up inspections

The chiefs, who have not been charged with any wrongdoing, had their phones seized when federal agents came knocking, fire sources told The Post.

Meanwhile, the fourth floor of FDNY HQ — home to the fire prevention office — was closed off and investigators were in the process of removing records and computers, the sources added.

The city’s Department of Investigation, which handled the search of the offices, confirmed it had received a complaint from the FDNY but declined to comment further.

Fire sources said Cordasco and Saccavino were promoted by Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh last February after she demoted three other chiefs — leading to a mutiny among the top ranks.

“The FDNY’s first priority is always keeping New Yorkers safe, and we expect every member of the department to act appropriately. As soon as Commissioner Kavanagh was alerted to these allegations last fall, she immediately referred them to DOI to investigate them,” a spokesperson for the department said in a statement.

“Commissioner Kavanagh has proactively placed the employees at the center of this investigation on modified duty, and we are awaiting guidance from DOI regarding further action.”

Islamic State militants attack Syrian military barracks and kill 9 troops, war monitors say

Militants from the Islamic State group attacked military barracks in central Syria this week, killing nine soldiers, an opposition war monitor said. The Syrian army and officials have not confirmed the attack.

IS claimed responsibility for the attack on Monday near the town of Al-Sukhna, saying its fighters also seized weapons abandoned by fleeing soldiers and set fire to the barracks. The militants’ statement claiming responsibility was posted late on Tuesday.

The attack was the latest in intensifying clashes in the desert in eastern Syria between the militants and the Syrian army, supported by Iran-backed militias.

IS militants have found refuge in the desert in remote areas in Syria and along the Iraqi-Syrian border, where they continue to stage attacks nearly five years after the group was defeated in Syria in 2019.

U.S. troops in northeastern Syria and U.S.-backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces have conducted numerous operations against the remaining IS militants. The United States has approximately 900 troops in Syria focused on countering the group’s remnants.

Since war erupted in Gaza on Oct. 7 following Hamas’ surprise attack and incursion into southern Israel, U.S. bases in eastern Syria and Iraq have come under regular attack by an umbrella group of Iran-backed Iraqi militias called the Iraqi Islamic Resistance.

The militias say the attacks are in response to Washington’s support for Israel.

HEZBOLLAH ATTACKS ISRAELI SITES, SURVEILLANCE EQUIPMENT (VIDEOS)

On February 15, Hezbollah launched a series of attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from its heartland, southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah announced in three separate statements that its fighters targeted surveillance equipment of the IDF in the sites of Ruwaisat al-Alam, al-Raheb and al-Marj using “suitable weapons.” In two other statements, the group said it fired a Falaq heavy rocket at the Zabdin Barracks and shelled the al-Samaqa site with a volley of rockets.

The attacks were carried out “to support the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance,” Hezbollah noted its statements.

Separately, the group’s Military Media released video footage showing a recent attack with anti-tank guided missiles at the al-Radar site and an Israeli Skylark reconnaissance drone that was downed over southern Lebanon earlier.

In response to recent attacks, the IDF said that it struck dozens of Hezbollah targets in south Lebanon. Targets hit by fighter jets included rocket launching positions, buildings and other infrastructure used by the group in the Wadi Saluki area.

The IDF also struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the town of Labbouneh, and last night hit a building used by the group in the town Taybeh.

Several other positions of Hezbollah close to the towns of Blida and Maroun al-Ras were also attacked, according to the IDF.

There were no reports of civilian casualties after the last series of Israeli strikes. However, Hezbollah announced the death of six of its members during the day. The IDF said that two of them were a commander from the elite Rudwan Force and his deputy. This is yet to be confirmed by the group.

Hezbollah and its allies have been launching attacks from southern Lebanon against the IDF since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.

So far, the clashes on the border have resulted in six civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least ten IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 300 people have been killed, including 190 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 40 civilians.

Israel is surveilling U.S. data on settler attacks to thwart sanctions, sources reveal

Intelligence sources say Israel seeks to counter information sent privately to the U.S. by the PA, fearing actions against violent West Bank settlers.

Israel has been surveilling information provided to the United States by the Palestinian Authority regarding settler violence in the occupied West Bank in recent months, +972 Magazine and Local Call have learned.

Sources in Israeli intelligence told both sites that they have been tracking materials passed through private channels by the PA to the Office of U.S. Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority (USSC) in Jerusalem in order to “understand what the U.S. knows about settler violence.” The intention, they explained, is not to act against the perpetrators but to prevent the collected information from “developing into sanctions.”

U.S. officials, who confirmed that PA officials have been sending a great deal of information to the USSC on incidents of settler violence, told +972 and Local Call that this information contributed in part to President Joe Biden’s decision earlier this month to impose sanctions against four settlers known to have attacked Palestinians and left-wing Israeli activists. The officials added that the information led in recent months to the inclusion of dozens of other settlers on a “blacklist” prohibiting their entry into the United States.

The USSC was established in 2005 and is responsible for the relationship between the United States and the PA’s security forces, as well as dealing with security coordination between Israel and the PA. Since November 2021, the office has been headed by Lieutenant General Michael R. Fenzel, who sources say is working vigorously to prevent settler violence, with the understanding that it undermines regional stability and weakens the PA’s status in the eyes of the Palestinian public.

“We want to know what the Americans know,” one Israeli source told +972 and Local Call. “The goal is to know what is going to hit us when Fenzel comes and demands answers about these cases. It’s not for going after the settlers and arresting them — that’s why a lot of people here felt uncomfortable doing it.

“The preoccupation with what the Americans know stems from [the understanding] that they intend to do something with this information,” the source continued. “Everyone here knows the name Fenzel. The Americans are demanding accountability from Israel, and the Israelis are finding themselves embarrassed. The fact that we are being asked to look for the materials indicates that Israel has no good answers.”

Outrageous — The Gaza Mass Murder Massacre of 12 February 2024

Final Measure of Unlimited Zionist Ethnic Cleansing – Elimination of Palestine from the Map

The genocidal bombardment of southern Gaza of 12 February is comparable to the 1948 Nakba (“nakba” means catastrophe and refers to the violent displacement and dispossession of Palestinians, along with the destruction of their society, culture, identity, political rights).

In a few minutes, it left at least 200 people, mostly children, women, and elderly dead, dismembered, pieces of flesh hanging from the ruins of earlier destroyed homes, schools, and hospitals.

In what appears to be a final act of ethnic cleansing, the Netanyahu Government through the atrocious Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has announced and is proceeding with the total elimination of the Palestinian people from Gaza.

Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, has warned that Israel intends to open the border floodgates of Rafah in Southern Gaza to force-evacuate more than 1.4 million Gaza inhabitants, currently assembled and barely existing in unheard-of-conditions of misery and makeshift tent-cities, into Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Indeed, tent-cities have already been built in Sinai. Most likely under a clandestine agreement between al-Sisi and Netanyahu.

Netanyahu for the Israeli side confirmed this intention of mass-evacuation.

As a precursor to this “final step” of ethnic cleansing, and according to an Al-Mayadeen correspondent in Rafah, Gaza, the Zionist occupation used US-funded and internationally banned incendiary missiles in its raids on the city of Rafah that resulted in the massacre of over 200 Palestinians, including mostly women and children.

COUNTDOWN TO DAY X: ASSANGE & THE 'POLITICAL OFFENSE' EXCEPTION

The legal team for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange contends that District Court Judge Vanessa Baraitser erred by failing to recognize that it was an “abuse of process” for the U.S. to seek Assange's extradition.

Editor’s Note: Ahead of a major appeal hearing before the British High Court of Justice on February 20 and 21, the “Countdown To Day X” series will highlight key aspects of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s appeal against extradition to the United States.

The legal team for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange contends that District Court Judge Vanessa Baraitser erred by failing to recognize that it was an “abuse of process” for the United States government to seek Assange’s extradition for political offenses. They hope the British High Court of Justice will reconsider this aspect of the case.

Individuals accused of treason, sedition, or espionage have historically been protected from extradition because those offenses involve acts directed at a particular government. Such offenses are viewed in international law as “pure political offenses” and not “ordinary crimes.”

Seventeen of the 18 charges against Assange allege that he violated the U.S. Espionage Act. The eighteenth charge accuses him of conspiracy to commit a computer intrusion.

Assange’s defense previously stated [PDF], “The indictment itself is framed to allege conduct whose objective was ‘to obtain receive and disclose national defense information’ and the repeated refrain is that the [intent or knowledge of wrongdoing] of Julian Assange was that ‘he had reason to believe that the information was to be used to the injury of the United States or the advantage of any foreign nation.’”

“The indictment further refers to the ‘shared philosophy of Julian Assange and [Chelsea] Manning’ and their ‘mission’ to disclose information to the public,” his defense added. “This necessarily is conduct directed against the existing apparatus of the state for political purposes. In this sense too, the allegations are of a ‘pure political offense.’"

But the Crown Prosecution Service (on behalf of the U.S. government) took the position that there is no political offense exception that may protect Assange from extradition. While there is an exception may be part of the extradition treaty between the U.S. and U.K., prosecutors emphasized that the exception was omitted when Britain’s Parliament passed the Extradition Act in 2003.

Baraitser sided with prosecutors. “The defense has not established that the 2003 U.K.-U.S. treaty confers rights on Mr. Assange which are enforceable in this court.”

“[T]he nature of an extradition treaty,” is that it is “an agreement between governments which reflects their relationship for the purposes of extradition,” Baraitser asserted. “It is made between sovereign states on the proviso that it is not governed by the domestic law of either state.”
