Sean Spicer goes after April Ryan, following her dispute with Sarah Sanders

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer accused White House correspondent April Ryan of being solely "interested in personal fame," following a dispute between Ryan and current White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

In an interview with the Washington Examiner published Friday, Ryan argued that Sanders was singling her out and threatening physical violence following a back-and-forth about whether Sanders had been "blindsided" by President Trump's new lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who had said Trump reimbursed another one of his lawyers for payments to the porn actress Stormy Daniels.

“Why is it I'm asking similar types of questions like all the rest of the room but she’s coming at me that way?” said Ryan, a White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks. “Why? What did I do differently than anyone?”

Trump to approach Vladimir Putin summit with 'eyes wide open'

by Gabby Morrongiello

| July 05, 2018 12:38 PM

President Trump is approaching his first bilateral summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin with "eyes wide open," according to a top U.S. diplomat.

"President Trump is pursuing this meeting … to determine if Russia is willing to make progress in America's bilateral relationship," U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman told reporters during a briefing Thursday.

"[Trump] believes a better relationship with Russia would be better for America and Russia, but the ball is in Russia's court," Huntsman said. He said Trump and his staff are "entering with our eyes wide open, but peace is always worth the effort."

The July 16 meeting between Trump and Putin in Helsinki, Finland, will follow the same format as the president's summit last month with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. He and Putin will meet one-on-one for a brief period before proceeding to oversee an expanded bilateral discussion and working lunch with aides. They are expected to discuss U.S.-Russia relations, Syria, Ukraine's sovereignty, and Moscow's malicious cyberoffensive against the U.S. and several other countries.

Jim Jordan responds to claims he knew about Ohio State doctor who sexually abused wrestlers: WATCH

by Naomi Lim

| July 04, 2018 02:59 PM

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Wednesday issued fresh denials that he knew about claims wrestlers he coached more than two decades ago at Ohio State University had been sexually abused by their team doctor, and that he failed to prevent such action.

"We knew of no abuse, never heard of abuse. If we had, we would have reported it," Jordan told reporters at a Fourth of July event in Ohio on Wednesday. "And if, in fact, there's problems, we want justice for the people who were victims obviously."

"As I said, we're happy to talk with the folks who are doing the investigation. But nothing — I mean, things they said about me just were flat out not true," he continued, referring to a probe Ohio State launched into Dr. Richard Strauss, the accused doctor, in April.

Jordan and his office have pushed back on assertions that he ignored interview requests from investigators on the subject.

Jordan and his office have pushed back on assertions that he ignored interview requests from investigators on the subject.

“Despite claims to the contrary, Congressman Jordan’s office has not received a request for interview from the investigative team," Ian Fury, Jordan's communications director, told the Washington Examiner. "We have demanded that they send us the supposed communication and remain willing to assist in any way that we can.”

It's not 'both sides': Democrats far more partisan in SCOTUS votes

by Tim Kane

| July 05, 2018 06:00 AM

With Justice Anthony Kennedy’s announced retirement from the Supreme Court, we can expect a great deal of bitterness from Democrats who are powerless to stop the nominee from President Trump and the slim Republican majority in the Senate. Such bitterness is not without precedent, and the data show this isn’t really a “both sides” issue. The bitterness tends to come from the Democratic side of the aisle.

Looking back over the past eight nominations, half were from Democratic presidents and half from Republican presidents, yet the percentage of opposition votes were lopsided.

The four Democrat-appointed justices currently on the Supreme Court received a combined 88 affirmative votes from Republican senators, while receiving 79 negative votes. That means, on average, a majority of Republican senators voted to confirm the nominations of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Steven Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan, while 48 percent were No votes.

Do the same math for Democratic senators voting on Republican nominees, and you get a different result: Of all the votes by Senate Democrats in consideration of the four Republican nominees, 79 percent were in opposition. That is, barely a fifth of Democratic senators were willing to support the nominations of Justices Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch.

JIM JORDAN’S ACCUSERS HAVE A SKETCHY HISTORY, RAISING QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR ‘AUTHENTICITY’

One accuser, Mike DiSabato, is also being accused of bullying the widow of a Marine over a memorial fund set up in her husband’s name.

DiSabato is also facing a defamation lawsuit.

The other accuser, Dunyasha Yetts, served prison time for a $1.8 million fraud scheme

Two former Ohio State University wrestlers accusing Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan of ignoring sexual misconduct by a university physician more than two decades ago have a history of failed business dealings, lawsuits, harassment allegations, and in the case of one accuser, an 18 month prison sentence for fraud.

One of the former wrestlers, Mike DiSabato, is also being accused by the widow of a Marine who was killed in combat in Iraq of intimidating and bullying her over a memorial fund set up in her husband’s name.

“I question the intent, the authenticity, the verity, that Mike DiSabato shares in any of his words or actions,” Karen Mendoza, the wife of Ray Mendoza — a former teammate of DiSabato’s who was killed in 2005 — said in a statement.
